i was asked by my co worker... does it sound or look fishy if a young woman is dating an older man, like 20-30 yrs older, old enough to be their dad.. and what if they met online, does it sound legit

It's not about whether it "sounds" legit, it's about whether it "is" legit. You could have a 50 year old difference, if the relationship is real that is what matters.

Of course mind you, an age difference of maybe more than 10 years is definitely going to raise a red flag or two, but this is why they have to have enough evidence about the legitimacy of their relationship.

My cousin's wife's dad for example, married a woman 25 years younger than him basically young enough to be his daughter, and she was approved. He died of cancer a couple of years ago and she had a CR1, I'm not sure if she filed ROC.

Also I'm sure there are plenty of people here in the same situation. Again, it's about the legitimacy of the relationship and that they have enough evidence to prove to the satisfaction of the CO that it's not for the purposes of immigration. The fact that they met online isn't an issue, although they do have to meet in person for a fiance visa.

Each case in personal, in some cases yes it will be fishy, in many cases, totally legit. So many people of all ages meet online these days!

In terms of immigration, cultural norms are taken into consideration. In some cultures, having a large age difference is totally normal, especially if the female is younger.

There is a double standard with embassies. Younger females and older guys no problem. Younger men and older women is more often

a problem and being viewed with suspicion. High fraud embassies will scrutinize age differences more than low fraud embassies.

People that said anything negative about my wife being 30 years younger went immediately on my list of people with bad character. The problem is not the age difference between myself and my wife. The problem is with THEM. For saying anything. For thinking they have any right whatsoever to comment on other people's relationships. Inter-racial, gay, age differences - it's all the same idiocy and bad character to judge.

The most moronic thing about it is people actually placing themselves in the position of pretending to protect my wife from me. Hubris isn't strong enough a word for this. What they are proving is that they don't view my wife as fully human. As if she were a imbecile, incapable of making her own decisions in life. I can't think of anything more reprehensible than dismissing how my wife actually feels, and replacing that with their stupid framing.

Do we hear people saying, for same age couples, that she is old enough to be your sister or brother? The only purpose of saying such a thing is to maliciously inject an insinuation of incest. "Old enough to be your father" is smearing you with an incest comment, and "young enough to be his daughter" is a combination of sliming with incest and pedophilia. The person saying such a thing has bad character.

Meeting on the internet? Pffft. So what. Are we in the 18th century? Oh my GOD! I hear people BUY stuff on the internet too. Well, it certainly isn't legitimate to buy stuff online. lol.

I don't think age is an issue when it comes to a relationship and filing for ones petition too. It doesn't matter how young or old your partner is. At the end of the day, it will only be you and your partner together and will definitely make plans together So long as the feeling is genuine then you're good to go.

During the interview, they will surely ask why and the decision depends on your answer and not from others.
