i was born in the uk, yorkshire, but brought up in australia...was brought up on soccer which the aussies call it..my family played an coach soccer in oz and i also brought my kids up on soccer they played and i coached and managed their teams...im a sports nut.. i love our aussie rules (alot better and faster than grid iron as the aussie call it)

although american football is alot slower and alot let althetic (in my books) i will still watch the game just to get my fix on some sport...i stir my husband on how much padding they wear compared to our aussie rules guys...

soccer in oz over the years has taken off...but it wont take over aussie rules ...never ..

frances my family are leeds fans too...thats where i came from...i check every now and again how they are going will they be getting relegated again....which part of yorkshire do you come from ..i was born in a small village called swillington...

to me any sport that is football is a sport i will watch but my all time favourite is soccer...

I like to watch football , I do get a bit emotional tho' I have actually watched the Superbowl twice. I can't figure out what American football is all about. They get the ball...run a bit...stop...run a bit..stop again. It's like watching beefy guys playing kiss chase, but no one wants to pucker up !! :P The half time show is a good idea tho'

What annoys me about soccer is that the clock runs up. That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen! The clock should run down! How do you know how much time is left in the game?

This is mainly because the length of time left in the game is not exact. Only the referee knows when the game is up, as he is the only time keeper (although at the 45 min and 90 min mark he usually informs the crowd through the 4th official). Its worth noting that the idea of which way the clock runs was most likely chosen by the TV companies. Most grounds until the last few years simply had a regular clock. As games usually kicked off at 3pm, you knew around 3:45pm that half time was close. Similarly the 2nd half usually starts at 4pm, and the game ends just after 4:45pm. Its the lack of timeouts that allow timekeeping to be so simple.

That said, your complaint has to be the most petty I've ever heard! :)
