To all those who are located in CA and have already a foreign dl:

On Saturday I got my EAD.

Today I got my DL valid for two months which will be extended after I have completed the behind the wheel test.

I just walked in at the DMV office in Stanton CA. It took us 3 hours of waiting but we just took our ticket and went for a two hr lunch. This means I litterly can move forward without having completed already the behind the wheel test.

Make sure u study the dmv app cause questions look quite similar to it.

Hey I took the written test this morning for the driver's license, Santa Rosa, CA. In California there is a new law AB60, in effect this january, that people may apply for the DL if the meet the requirements, like they don't need the EAD to apply for the DL. Only some ID like the passport and proof of residency in California, birth certificate, etc, there is a list!

When I was trying to get the DL when I got here, I read about the proposal of this law, and then it was passed in the last elections. Since it was going to start in january/15, I didn't go for it since I was going to get my EAD early in january anyway...but this is good to know but those living in California and want to drive before getting the EAD.

I arrived here in august, but I got sick and couldn't do anything, then I was told that if I go for the license it was going to be valid only for the remaining of the I-94 (and to use the I-94, it has to expire 2 months later)...so in a way it didn't make sense to me and I wasn't able to do much while I was sick.

So I passed the test, made a mistake in one question and in another it was an ambiguous question and I can't find it in the manual!!...still looking tho...lol..... I have the driver's permit because I found out in december that my DL from home was going to expire in january... and then the lady tells me that it doesn't matter, I still have to take the behind the wheel test...I don't get it, why a temp DL if there is going to be a behind the wheel test ?

Anyway, for those in California that are waiting for the EAD and want to drive, check the AB60 law.

social security card received today. took 1 week 6days from when I applied to when I received it. Now can't wait for Monday to get here to apply for my drivers license, state ID.

Yes i already receive my ead card and its what i used to apply for ssn.

My interview is next week, we did not filed a tax return yet cause I did not got my SSN yet

all we have is our lease agreement with both names on it, proof of rent paid every month, and joint banks statements plus joint credit card approval from bank of america, mail sent to same address and purchases sent to same address, and pictures... we only live together since august so there was not a lot else in documentation together at the moment

Do you guys think we have enough documents? thanks a lot and awesome luck for all of us

You should get affidavits from family and friends supporting your marriage.

I heard someone say that affidavits are not necessary because anyone could sign and stuff, I don't know

but thank you for the advice, but as of now I think I'm gonna keep at this, the fact that me and my husband live together and gonna be able to answer whatever they ask and everything, I'm pretty confident

You would have to get them notarized and signed. It's great evidence to have.

I went to have my Social Security card changed to my married name back on January 6th. They said they could not see my EAD card in the system even though I had the physical copy. I got my updated Social Security card earlier this week. If anyone else was wondering or in the same boat)))
