Filling out a FAFSA and including your foreign spouse's income

I am the US citizen and will be applying a FAFSA for this fall's semester. I called and they said to include my husband's income from last year even though we weren't married and we had to figure out his income in dollars. Lucky me since he is from England it will almost double. Anyways, their tax year is from April to April so it won't be over yet even though he isn't working there anymore. My question is how in the world am I to figure out how to do this? When I first thought about it I was like ok this is simple, but now I have myself all flustered. One thing after another and they keep coming. Can we use his P45 from his job he left in England or will we have to contact Inland Revenue? Since they don't do W2s or anything I'm not really sure where to go. We have his stuff he got from Inland Revenue from the year before but not really sure how that would help us for this year. If anyone has any insight into this I will greatly appreciate it because after all the money on immigration fees I am strapped for cash and could use some assistance paying for my last year of college. Thanks for any help or suggestions in advance. I'm at a total loss where to even start.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

i had the same issue when i was filling those silly forms out. especially since my husband (usc) hadn't received his W2's yet.

so what i did was use his last pay slip for the YTD information, same for mine, converting mine to US funds and entered the information using those numbers. unfortunately since i got a buy-out from my company and my hubby makes a high salary (with 1/2 still going to his ex though!) i didn't get any money after all my trouble. :(

oh, and if i remember correctly, you have until june to fill them out if you need to wait until then to have the required information.

good luck.

oh, and if you are still having troubles, call the number on the forms - they were rather helpful to me.

you can fill out your FAFSA now based on the info you believe to be true and go back later and ammend it.

the key to getting the most money available is filing early. it isnt uncommon for families to do FAFSA before filing their taxes and go back later to ammend..........in fact its addressed on the FAFSA site.

Good Luck!!!

I think I've just become apathetic with the whole FAFSA thing. I fill it out with some random numbers. I don't really have any money nor do I earn much each year. Parent's income isn't that high either. But nothing good has ever come of the FAFSA for me. I just take loans. (state school in Illinois now a $90,000 education, woo!) hahah.

I just see the word FAFSA so I have to complain.
