It depends on if you have issues that you feel you can't overcome on your own. Most of us on this site have comleted all the paperwork on our own. There is a lot of info in the guides and wikis listed in the top navigation bar.

Welcome and best of luck!

Unless you have a criminal record or past overstay issues most people manage to complete the process using the guides on here, without an attorney. Good luck :)

Hi guys! Do we need to have an attorney or any immigration office to be able to process our papers for the petition? We are about to start it this November. My husband is a permanent resident. Thank you.

Which visa do you intend to file for? :time:

I think you're talking about a regular F2A visa. You can file that easily on your own and save all the money you'd spend on a lawyer, particularly if you study the guides thoroughly.

Here is the guide to your visa type: http://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-through-family/green-card-family-member-permanent-resident

and http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/B1en.pdf

Reading the guidelines from the website directly would help a lot. The only thing they're asking is a photo that both of your are physically present during the vows. Also, a certification of any joint ownership or finances. My question is, do we really need to submit a story or timeline on how our relationship started? Is it applicable for us? In the guideline, it was never mentioned. Thank you guys.

Maybe you will get more accurate information if you read/post in the F2A/B forum.

Since your spouse is an LPR, your petition does not get processed later on at NVC immediately, as opposed to those for spouses of US citizens. For the latter, it currently takes around 1 year to receive a green card. Petitons for spouses of LPRs are processed when their priority date comes up and gets to the top of the queue. As of right now, they are working on petitons with the priority date 08 MARCH 2013 for F2A and 08JAN04 for F2B from the Philippines. So you're looking at more than 1 (maybe even 2+ years) until you'd get your visa approved. However, if your spouse happened to become a USC in that time, your petition would be "upgraded" to the regular processing.

Good luck!

Thank you @strawberrykiss. My only concern for now is the documents needed for filing. Our relationship developed through social networking for about a year. Then went home in the Philippines and get married. I've read in the uscis the documents needed, but some people are saying we should make a letter on how our relationship started, chats history and the likes. I'm so confused if these are really necessary or our joint bank account and photos of the wedding are enough? Thank you again.
