Hi,

Do you have any experience in taking medical exams(St. Luke's in manila) with cough and colds? I am planning to have my medical exam done this week, as my interview is coming this Oct 29. I don't want to delay it since my period would be due next week. I am not sure how my dry cough and colds will impact my medical exam results.

Thanks

my medical exam wasn't anything but them taking my blood and doing a chest xray and then doctor's visit didn't consist of anything but the doc asking me questions nd filling out the papers....idk how they look in your country, but if they are like the ones in Poland then i'd suggest u go without a cold and coughing but with period...

If they don't have any vaginal exam or another exam just go while you have your period , cold and cough will never effect your exam

Note: if you decide to have the medical test while you have your period be sure that you are leakage safe since you might bleed alot if you feel uncomfortable

Nope having a cough and cold won't cause any issues. TB is the most common issue and that is first scanned for with an x-ray, if there are concerns from with the x-ray then it is the sputum test (60 day process). A cold with a cough will have not negative affect, if that is all it is.

Manila definitely will not do it during a period. Other med offices are lax on that, but Manila is strict on it.

If you are sure the cough and cold are not something more than that, like bronchitis, then go. If the doctor asks, tell her that you have a cough and cold and let her examine you for it as she pleases. As long as it is nothing worse, nothing will come of it.

And if you went to a doctor for it, bring in whatever records the doctor has as well as any medicines the doctor prescribed.

After some research about that I found that you'll go through private parts exam and you'll need to disrobe for the examination ! you can go while you have the period to do part of the tests and come back again when you finish your period for the physical exam.

Again I recommend that you wear double pads just in case you start to have heavy period at that day.

Absolutely no benefit to starting the medical only to have to stop and come back after their period is finished. The above is for sure bad advice.

I second that. Why get up at 4 AM so you can be on the line at 6 AM twice? The med will not be done until the second time you go there, so might as well do it all after your period is done.

Or even better, do it now before your period starts. As long as you are confident your simple cold and cough is just that and nothing serious, don't worry about it. Neither a simple cold nor a simple cough will cause you to fail the exam.

I agree with Hank.. I did my medical last week.. It's a complete physical exam.. as in COMPLETE.. And the first thing they are going to ask you is when did your 1st day of period of the month came and ended, and if you do have your period that time.. they wont do it. About the colds and cough, Don't worry :). There is a guy in there that has a cold and is coughing, and passed his medical exam in 1 day. Luckily I passed mine too ^__^

You have spotting already? Too late. Wait for your period to be over. Blood spots will contaminate the urine sample, and they will reject it.

What day is your interview on? Will you be cutting it close? A little plannng here will go a long way.

I have read stories where people cut it close and told St. Luke's about it, and they helped these people get things done on time.

Note the days your period starts and stops because you will be asked by both the doctor and the nurse.

You will be fine mainly because you have been doing the smart thing of asking instead of guessing. We will continue to do our best to help.

Thank you so much :) my problem is resolved haha, I just started my period today. My interview is scheduled on October. Normally I have my period for 7 days.. so I need to wait another 7 days after this period. So I intend to do the medical on the 22nd of October. As I have read that medical exams should be done a week before the interview, October 29 is 7 days after the medical exam. Should I move it to October 31, to be on the safe side? I have work, and Oct 31 is a declared holiday in our office :) so it means it won't be counted as absence for me as well.
