I'm assembling the IV support document package to send to NVC after fee payment and have two questions.

First do they REALLY want the original birth certificate and marriage certificate? Right now I have color copies of the original scanned and sent as pdf files for both docs. Will this suffice or should I start the originals headed this way? Seem ludicrous if that is a requirement.

Second does it matter if the police clearance comes from the police dept. or must it be a NBI version? And same question as above is the 'original' the only accepted version?

Trying not to generate a RFE or 'checklist' weeks into the review process.

TIA

Jim

We sent my NSO original birth certificate and NSO marriage contract since I requested for a few copies. They might accept the colored copies but they might request for the original copies on the interview. In my case, they didn't ask for the original copies on the packet 4 which is the last packet we receive through email about the documents they need during the interview. As per the NBI, yes she needs to submit the original NBI *she can keep the personal copy side) and police clearance won't be requested. Police clearance is requested if she lived for more than a year from another country but if she was in the Ph the whole time, they will need the NBI.

Salamat!

Lived in Phils her whole life, so looks likes she needs NBI version. I will have her scan and send so I can print and include with my package.

So much easier if originals can be provided at interview. I think I will state in my cover letter as if it will make any difference.

NVC wants your original documents, I would have your wife send you those originals immediately through LBC.

Also have her make a copy of her NBI report and send the original to you.

You can take the chance of sending copies, but if you get an RFE it sets you further behind in processing....

This is what I did. I gathered all the documents for the IV and sent it directly to NVC. Though I just used the parcel from the post office but that has the tracking number so my husband didn't have to resend it. Just make sure everything they ask is complete.

FWIW, after trying finally getting through to NVC (about 15 busy signals over 2 days) and then a 45 minute on-line hold I was finally able to talk to a customer service(?) representative that told me that the NVC in the US did need to see all original documents and to also include copies of each.

They will need Beneficiary birth certificate, marriage certificate, NBI clearance, and finally copy only of the passport data pages. Be advised that all originals MUST come from NSO. LCR versions are not acceptable.

Had I known that originals would be required I could have already had them in my possession. I was under the impression that originals could be presented at the interview but that is only true for the 8 or so electronic only filing consulates.

Hope will help someone avoid future delays.

I know how frustrating it is to get delayed with the process. You can just ask your wife to send the IV packet directly to NVC. That's what I did. Sent them from the PH directly to NVC so it would get a little faster.

Try to get a few copies too from NSO just so if she needs any name correction when she gets here, she can present the Marriage cert and birth cert( I am speaking from experience since they got my 2 first names mixed up). They won't keep them. It's always good to have a spare copy.

She did get 3 of each on last trip to NSO but it seems like we may be burning through them rapidly. I'm going to suggest she takes a chill pill (after SLMC, of course) and presevere another day trip to NSO before departure. Fortunately she lives in Bulacan so not a big problem but a major aggravation.

Yeah! She's really close! But the 3 should work. Another thing that she can do while waiting for the case to be complete is to get the medical. That's what I did. Our case wasn't complete yet when I had my medical. We wanted to make sure there will be no more delays. So after we received the case complete email with the date of the interview, we just waited for the physical case to arrive at the USEM in Manila then resched the interview to an earlier date.
