Total time for petitioning parents

I will shortly be a US citizen and will be petitioning for my parents (from Australia) to become permanent residents.

After perusing these forums and other sites I feel like I am missing something with the petition process.

According to visapro.com the processing time for the I-130 is 5 months. Am I right to say there is more to the process after the i-130 processing? Whats a more realistic time frame from Priority Date to parents acquiring their entry visas?

Ours is an IR5 visa (parents of US citizen visa) and it took us nearly 1 year 6.5 months to get the visa.

Yes, earlier it used to be over within a year or so, but now it is taking longer.

Thanks folks.

Is it possible and is there any advantage to kick starting the process while I'm on a green card and then updating it when I become a citizen?

No. GC holders are not allowed to file for their parents.

Wait until you have your Naturalization Certificate or US passport on-hand.

hi

no, only USC can file for parents, you will need to send proof with the i130 that you are a USC
