Oh I hear you! It falls right up there with "be patient", "hang in there", "you have to wait" .....

There is really nothing anyone can say that helps. So I offer you a little empathy, since I have no constructive advice. It is just plain ridiculous to have to wait so long. And then when you get approved, you have to educate all and sundry and try explain that you haven't even applied for the visa yet. That only comes after the NVC wait. TSC is a mess. Period.

that, right there. I explain it as - so far we are waiting for the petition that will allow us to apply for a visa to be approved. Usually people get confused enough to stop asking...

I haven't seen anyone defend the service center.

Tomorrow my congressman is following up on my case since they haven't responded to him.

I think JamesRenee was referring to the official responses whereby USCIS denied the vast difference in processing times, not the forum members.

I hope your congressman has more success than ours did. My fiance made countless calls to his congressman's office, resulting in numerous fruitless inquiries.

The discrepancy in processing times?! Go read some of the CSC threads. Or the threads where TSC couples are talking about how long they've waited & someone from CSC chirps up and says we should be happy for them. Read some of the threads.

Why shouldn't we be happy for them? No one chose where they were processed. You wouldn't be happy?

Lets don´t. I have a feeling it might end in virtual bloodshed and create more trouble than it´s worth ;-)

I do what others have recommended and stay away from those as much as I can. reading the topic titels can be tricky enough as it is. Noone says I can´t be happy for them and still upset for those of us at TSC.

Yeah I've found that too. Simply looking at the thread listing in the progress subforum becomes annoying at times. Lol

This. I have explained the whole process numerous times to all my friends and family, and I don't even know how many times I've been asked, "how's the paperwork going?" What paperwork? I haven't had paperwork in months. All that paperwork is sitting in a box somewhere, waiting to be looked at, just like it's been for the past six months. I know people ask because they want to show they care, but if they really cared they would either try to understand or just not even ask. I post to Twitter and Facebook that everyone will know any news the second I receive it, but I still get asked questions I cannot answer. It's frustrating but I look at it as a way to help people understand how flawed the immigration system is.

If you have the strength to be happy for them, then absolutely. You're right. It's not the fault of the filer where their petition is assigned for processing. I think the point is, it wears you down after a while. The wait time is not equal for everyone and the toll it takes on each couple varies widely by their personal circumstances and other factors which most of us know nothing about. Watching September approvals showing up when our August 4th lay untouched hurt. It was nice to see people being approved and it wasn't a case of being happy or unhappy about others - we were sad for us. And we were allowed to be sad for us. We waited nearly 8 months. It just hurt.

...and in the end nothing can be done about it. It is what it is. I only reach out to my local representation just to make me feel like I am doing something about it. It is what it is. It'll come when it comes. I suspect you'll post when your approval happens as well. It's a happy moment. Hating people's success is too much work.

Does anyone know if the petitions are reviewed in the order they recieve them, or do they just go through them randomly for that month?

From what I understand (what my congressman's office told me), they are reviewed *then* sent to the background check. That explains why it's sort of random since the background checks would probably not come back in order.

Duh, how stupid is that? Since everything that gets accepted for processing needs background checks, why not send them there first to shorten the wait? Ridiculous!

But hey, no one ever accused a government agency of being efficient.

Is the background check for the US Citizen thats filing the petition or the benificiary? Do they automatically deny you if something dosent look good with the background check?

Doing it first or last wouldn't change what gets processed when. You still have to wait for it to come back and it would still be variable. I can't imagine it affects the wait at all.

Congressman's office said it's for both and they use a variety of companies to do it.

I suspect they'd deny you if it's something disqualifying. That's the point of this part of the process. Along with the paperwork being in order.
