Good day everyone! I've received my EAD/Travel combo card last January 9, 2015. Now my husband says I need SSN so I can start working and open a bank account. I've check the SSA site and I'm having trouble filling the 1-page form =)

In line "5 - CITIZENSHIP" I have 4 choices:

1. US Citizen

2. Legal Alien Allowed to Work

3. Legal Alien not Allowed to Work

4. Other

Since I have my EAD, shall I check "Legal Alien Allowed to Work" or "Other"? I know I'm officially not a legal resident yet since my I-485 is still in process, now I'm guessing I need to choose "Other". Should I bring other documents from USCIS other than my EAD, passport and birth cert? (say my receipt notice form of my I 485). Has anyone already applied for their SSN after receiving their EAD?

Thanks!!

roslle

thanks znl and janRay for the response, I'd choose Legal Alien allowed to work then. When i go to SSA personally I'll just have this verified.

Hey, I sort of disappeared I'm sorry- I filed on Oct 2nd, biometrics 5th Nov, EAD card arrived on 24th Dec, had our interview on 22nd January and got my card today.

I know that's not AT ALL reassuring to you- but I DO know that my local field office has very fast turnaround times for appointments which may explain the speed of interview date etc

I would add, take a look at the Sept filers forum- lots of them are still waiting on interviews too. Again, not reassuring that it's still so up in the air for you, BUT at least you know you aren't alone and haven't been overlooked...

Sorry, yes (dislocated my thumb so my typing is a challenge!). After all the worry- I'd actually say it was a pleasant experience. 5 mins, guy was lovely.

They called us in 10 mins late (he apologized!), he made smalltalk with us as we were walking to office

We got into office, he asked us for our IDs, we swore to tell the truth... he asked us where we met, asked my husband (the USC) what date we married, asked for our most recent bank statement (I'd submitted a bunch with the application) and if there was anything else we wanted to give him-gave him a couple more pics, he looked at the originals and then took the copies I'd brought he asked us 'Do you feel married?' we both looked at each other and burst out laughing then we all chatted a bit and were then approved on the spot, he reminded us about removing conditions in 2 years and to keep my GC with me at all times. That was it! We were parked 5 mins away, in, out and back to the car within 55 mins with a stop on way back to buy milk!

Hope yours goes as smoothly! I think I've covered it all but let me know if you have any questions if there's anything I've missed.

We had our interview today. It was all very simple, and took about half an hour:

- Check IDs and passports against the form

- Confirm full names and DOBs and a few other items

- Check originals for birth certificates and marriage certificate

- A few questions about the children (my step-children)

- Some chat about how we met

Most of the time was taken up by our interviewing officer trying to change the order of our paperwork to her preferred order, and then confusing herself more by moving more items than intended. It was pretty clear that she hadn't looked at any of our supporting documents before we arrived. She said that she expects to approve the application once she's properly reviewed them. Hopefully, all we need to do now is wait for the approval notice.
