I am in Vancouver and expecting an interview in Montreal around April / May. My documents are almost all ready. Was there anything specifically needed for the Montreal Embassy? I read the PDF on the http://travel.state.gov/website and I don't think so but I'd like to be sure! I don't think I need to create a DHL account either correct? Thank you for those who were in Montreal to reassure me!

Happy new year all!

Happy new year and good luck with your interview. You have to register for Loomis to get your passport back after the interview. There are embassy-specific instructions linked from the state.gov site which lead to a website for the montreal consulate if I remember correctly. From there you can download a PDF with a checklist and instructions.

Thanks Zuroma999! I realized they were 2 downloadable PDFs on different pages of the http://travel.state.gov/website. One under "Prepare supporting documents" and one under "Prepare for the interview". This latter is the the one you are talking about and has the instructions :)

Thanks again!

Hi,

Just wanted to say YAY YIPPEE after our visa interview in LONDON. Thought I'll share how it went:

Stayed overnight in London as did not want to take a chance with train delays for a 8am appt.

Got there at 7.15am and a line was starting to form - NOTE: There are 2 lines; one for passport/citizen services and one for the visa/IV services, which is longer.

I had my wife and child, so had a big bag, which one lady said would possibly not go through, but the second sentry lady said OK. However, NO LAPTOPS allowed, so please make sure you don't bring that. I had to take it to a pharmacy down the road who store it for £3 a pop. You can take an Ipad if it has no keyboard, else that also has to be left.

Then we went through airport style security; luckily I could keep my underwear on....

So my wife and child waited whilst I went and dropped it off.

Then into the building; a large waiting hall with about 25 counters, First person took all the documents and then after a while we were called in to STANDING interview; my perception of an interview with a chair to sit on was wrong. A very nice guy who took all the originals and very nicely spoke. Everyone seemed sympathetic as my son was doing a screaming 100m around the hall, so they were excused.

Fingerprints given, asked why the US, bla bla bla and all done.

Delivery will take about a week to the courier office.

He asked why the US, and not the UK - I just smirked and kindly smiled!!!

I would also like to thank SusieQQQ, Nich-Nick, OwenLondon, and others on other threads who have helped out. I'm not sure where all you are, but hope we can meet up for a drink.

I have posted some info request on my other thread, and hope you can continue.....GO USA!!!!!

Just to follow up: got my passport yesterday, exactly 5 working days.

Now just one question:

I want to go first and obviously secure a job so that health insurance can be taken for family. I presume I have to leave my partner's and child's DO NOT OPEN envelopes with them to bring when they come over on their own? As previously said, USCIS interviewer told me they can come by themselves.

However, The x-ray diskettes are in a sealed envelope so I cannot split them up? Do I just bring them along with me?

@SusieQQQ

I sent email to the KCC and that was there reply" Your forms have been received and pending further embassy review for the continuation of your visa processing. Interviews are scheduled numerically based on case numbers that have completed processing". Is that a normal reply?

AF20xxx

Interview location Cairo

Thanks in advance for you advice.

Yes, it's normal. It means KCC have finished processing your forms so when you are current you will be scheduled for an interview.

@SusieQQQ

Thanks for your reply,so no need to worry.

Please I have another inquiry

(My wife is the principal applicant and she did not wrote in the DS-260 that she has a high school diploma,but she wrote the higher degree which is 4 years university degree.

"in Egypt she must had high school degree before going to university"
Please advise this will not affect to proceed the application in getting the interview notification ?and should we show the high school degree to the embassy in Cairo or not?)

It's fine, but she should take copies of all her degrees. Some embassies only want high school diploma, some only want highest qualification, some want everything so best to be safe and take all of them.

Also by the way if you have submitted a DS260, you *will* get an interview (if your number is current). KCC cannot adjudicate, only a consular officer can decide whether or not to issue a visa.

@RainMan78

I'm a Vancouverite waiting for the interview as well, most likely around May-June.

It'd be nice if we can help each other through this hefty process (including the tedious move to Montreal). By the way should we obtain the police certificate + medicals now or till we get asked to do so by the consulate?

Cheers

The consulate doesn't tell you to get the Medicaid and police certificate, you just have to do it yourself. The certificate I got a few weeks before. For the medical, make sure you contact the doctor's office a couple months before your interview to schedule something for about a month before. The doctor will only give you an appointment you when you know the exact consulate date.

Oh okay, so without an interview date I can do nothing for medicals at this point..

For other documents, do you know if I can request a local police certificate from now? And if I have an original birth certificate from my home country that I requested about 4 years ago could I use it as long as it's meeting the requirements?

I'm asking these questions because I wanna make sure everything is in order ahead of time and avoid last-minute troubles.

Cheers

A birth certificate does not expire, so as long as it meets the requirements, it will be fine.

The police certificate takes only a week to get, so don't get it too early. You don't want it expiring before the interview or before you cross the border (when you cross the border to activate your visa they check that your medical and police certificate are not expired). It is best to get it about 2-3 weeks before the interview.

If you're in Vancouver, just call the Vancouver location of Morpho (see this page: http://www.morpho.com/morpho-in-canada/fingerprinting-services/canada-locations) to set up an appointment to get your fingerprints taken. You'll then get the police certificate in the mail about a week later.

Perfect, I'll wait a bit more then.

For the vaccines, does the doctor check that you're vaccinated against the 15 or so diseases mentioned on the pdf file from the consulate?

And do you know if a bank statement showing around 10K CAD will do the job? This financial support thing is the most critical yet ambiguous since the consulate doesn't specify clearly what are the requirements for self-supporting applicants.

I think 10K CAD is not going to be sufficient. You need a little bit more. However cash in the bank is not the only criteria.

Read this

http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86988.pdf

An applicant may establish the adequacy of financial resources by submitting evidence of bank deposits, ownership of property or real estate, ownership of
stocks and bonds, insurance policies, or income from business investments sufficient to provide for his or her needs, as well as those of any dependent
family member, until suitable employment is located. (The amount sufficient will depend on the applicant's age, physical condition, and family circumstances
and size.)
(1) Bank Deposits—Applicants relying on bank deposits to meet the public charge requirements should present as evidence a letter signed by a senior
officer of the bank over the officer's title, showing:
(a) The date the account was opened;
(b) The number and amount of deposits and withdrawals during the last 12 months;
© The present balance. This information may prevent attempted abuse such as an initial deposit of a substantial sum of money being made
within a relatively short time prior to the immigrant visa application;
and
(d) How the money, if in a foreign bank in foreign currency, is to be transferred to the United States

There is also guide for the poverty

http://aspe.hhs.gov/POVERTY/14poverty.cfm

If you are on your own, you probably need 11,000 USD at the minimum.

For the vaccines, if you are in BC, the doctor you will be using is this one: http://www.drgulzarcheema.com/index-3.html

You can send them an email about the vaccines. They will want proof of vaccines, or may just ask you to get missing ones for your age group. In my case, before the medical I went to a lab and got a blood test to see what I was already immune to (since I lost my childhood vaccination records), and then went to a travel clinic and got the 2 shots I was missing.

As Hank said, the proof of financials is more tricky. I just printed out my online bank statements and a document I wrote showing my plan on how/when I would move my savings down, and it was sufficient. But I had more than $10k. The amount needed depends on if you are single or have a family, how young you are, what field you are employable in, where you plan on living in the US, etc.

If you want to leave nothing to chance, and if you know someone in the US, then you should get an affidavit of support. If not, then you have to save as much as you can between now and your interview, and also show that you did all your research. Show that you know how much the cost of living is in the area you will settle in, what the job market is, etc. If you are confident you can survive on your savings until you find a job, and convince them, it will help a lot.

Thank you, I will email the doctor's office about my case to get the most accurate answer.

For the financial side, I'm currently a student (undergrad) so my budget is rather tight, and I'm not planning to move the US for good till around April 2016 (right after graduation). I'll do my best to look for someone in the US who could provide me with that affidavit of support, though once again it's unclear what income does the sponsor must have to be able to sponsor me.
