Can I get married in one state and file for SSN/AOS in that state and then move away a month later?

My fiancé lives in Virginia, and I plan on going over there in May/June if the K1 visa allows so. We want to get the process going as soon as possible so I can start working. If we get civilly married in Virginia and file for the AOS and SSN, will there be any problems if we move to New York City where he got a job in August?

Shouldn't be. You just have to advise them when you move what the new address is. Though depending on how quick they are...it may mess with your biometrics appointment....since they make that appointment for you....they send you paperwork saying go here on this day (I'm waiting for that myself). You could always call the uscis hotline just to make sure though.

Not sure where you're at (on the mobile device here have mercy!) but don't plan anything til you have that visa in hand. And with the k1, it's valid six months from your medical for that border crossing (and then the 90 days from border crossing to get married - so if you wanted to plan some fancy nuptials you could...) so you could perhaps wait until your spouse to be has things set up in New York (or at least has found a place to stay so you can use the New York address)

Or you could delay filing the aos until after you move. Depending on the dmv/etc in New York or Virginia was it(sorry I don't see the original post when I reply boo!) that might not be as bad...just another month to wait before you can work.

Bright side looking at the timelines they seem to be processing the ead/ap's decently enough. Still a wait but it is government after all...
