Pigu's booked on Air India, lol. I hope he survives.

Yeah I tried to get Air India or Air Kuwait but they were booked solid for 9 months from UK to New York. Cheaper by some distance.

My wife flew Air India to England last year to see me while K1 was pending. Her parents were not happy, they just thought it was going to be hijacked or crash or something, when infact the planes that get targeted for terrorism tend to be American carriers such as AA.

BA tran-atlantic is poor. Fly Virgin.

When I used it in 1999, it was actually fairly good; has it degraded since then?

Because Air India was once targetted (in 1985, the Kanishka/AI-182 incident--another in Japan was also supposed to blow up on ground, but the timing was incorrect); however, India has increased security at airports since then, both domestic and international.

However, Air India's quality is of some concern to desi travellers (of course, if you require a "Jain" meal, you're SOL as no other carrier offers this).

I've heard Virgin is exellent before, but it's way more expensive too isn't it?? We always have to think of cost first, unfortunately. :( Craig likes BA alright..I enjoyed my United flights, but I'm sure some others have had really poor experiences with them... M.

Virgin is a great carrier but unfortunately has a very limited route network to the US and is not a member of any of the big 3 alliances, BA is still the best TA carrier but can indeed be expensive unless you book during one of their sale periods. The strike is sort of back to an on/off stage with further talks today. If the strike does go ahead watch their website after the strike. If history repeats itself they will have some serious discounting going on to try and lure business back.

You can book Virgin TA thru Continental...it's their 'sister' airline. My first flight to the UK was booked on Continental.com and the plane was Virgin.

And it wasn't that much more expensive than BA at the time.

I have absolutely NO loyalty as to flights. I go with whoever is cheapest. Just so happens BA was cheapest for both my visits by a long shot. (I fly out of Dulles) SO got good deals from Virgin for his visits.

ETA: He flew in and out of Reagan and Dulles.

Completely agree. I was refering to the future when I can afford to fly on the better airlines.

Although when i flew out to NY last year I flew virgin because it was cheaper that day. You get a better entertainment system. Choice of upto 40 movies which you can watch whenever you like, pause rewind etc. BA flights i have been on (this is a lot of BA flights) have not had this. You watch a movie when it begins, if you miss the beginning.....tough sh*t!

That would almost be worth the extra 50-100 bucks! I tend to doze on trans_Atlantic flights, and it's slightly annoying to wake up 45 minutes into the final showing of the one movie you wanted to see. (I dope myself up with Dramamine as I tend to be a white knuckle passenger, that and 3/4 one of those bottles of wine and I'm out.)
