It's been 2.5 weeks since my wife have arrived in the US. How long does it take to receive the green card and ssn card. We checked the YES box to have the ssn mailed to us, but I'm concerned that it may not and considering visiting the local social security administration office by end of week.

Thanks!

If the SSN was going to arrive automatically, it probably would've by now. Most people on VJ report getting their social security cards within about 7-10 days from POE or not at all. By this point I'd recommend going to the SSA office in person to apply for a card. Green card seems to be arriving about a month after POE for most people, but follow along in this thread to see progress reports: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/439537-green-card-production-after-elis/page-81

you cant get a ssn till you have a green card, according to our ss office.

That's certainly not true for CR1 filers which the OP is.

The SSN should arrive within three weeks and the green card takes about a month to produce and mail (although mine took much longer -about two and a half months)

My husband has been here 3 weeks as of today. It took about 1.5 weeks to get his SSN (I also checked the yes box ). I have seen that some people get theirs between 2-3 weeks and some people much earlier. Someone once posted that he thought they got their SSN quick because his spouse had an ITIN from the previous years taxes. My husband did as well. I'm not sure if that actually has anything to do with it. We have yet to receive his green card in the mail.

I think they are seriously mistaken. My wife arrived on a K-1 on 9/2/12 and we went to SS office on 9/4/12 and applied and had a SS card in about 10 days. Granted it did say "Not Authorized For Employment" on it. After GC just went and made the name change.

My wife and I went to the SSN office today and asked if anything is pending. The representative said she is in the system and have been identified by DHS, but no application has been submitted so apparently checking the YES tick did nothing. She said we will get the SSN within 10 business days.
