So just a heads up to everyone - I live abroad with my husband in Switzerland - he is an Indian passport holder - which unfortunately we found out at a later date that he should obtain a PCC from the embassy. We called NVC and asked multiple times as we had a PCC directly from India that was issued 3 months back. Unfortunately we got mixed answers - some reps saying that it was OKay and others who decided that because it specifically states that we can't get a PCC when we reside outside of India, it's best to get the PCC directly from the embassy.

So, we drove 2 hours away to the embassy 3 weeks ago and filled out all of the paperwork - they told us it would take 30 days and that we were required to give his passport (which was impossible because of his extensive travel every month) - so they decided that the copy of the passport would suffice. We called 3 weeks after (and our AOS and IV bills were already paid so we literally took half of our normal processing times) and they said that we wouldn't get a PCC unless the Passport was handed over. Explaining over and over again that that wasn't possible and it was an emergency that we get this paperwork, the guy finally told us to come into the embassy (again 2 hours) and they could see about giving it back in a week. My husband went to the embassy, again filled the paperwork out and told them that he wasn't going to leave and see if they could speed up the process since he was again leaving out of the country in less than a week.

The guy finally gave up the PCC (which outside of India is just a letter from the embassy signed and stamped, that his PCC is cleared and stamped in his passport as well) only 3 hours after my husband arrived at the embassy.

Just incase anyone is searching for something like my case - here's the layout. Try to see if they can get it sooner and if you push the right buttons - or at the right place at the right time - the process can speed up.

Our case is now travelling to the NVC as we speak - should get there in the next business day - a whopping 100CHF to ship by Superman post (as I like to call it) - let's hope and pray that we don't receive any checklists!! Lots of luck and love to everyone!

I contacted a supervisor at NVC and she instructed me to write a letter of explanation to accompany my "real" checklist response. She also told me this may not help me and that we may be back in line. Lord help us!

@zee786 it looks like NVC might of sent you a false checklist. I got a similar one shortly after I've submitted my documents. I would call NVC to make sure

Does not look like a false checklist. The fact that it states bits and pieces for what is required I would say it is a real checklist.

Call NVC. Although to the operator can't see what email you received immediately. Sometimes takes a few days for it to be on their system apparently, so I was told.

FYI I saw somewhere that it is better to just paperclip? I know you already sent it but it's just for the fact that the reps will have to 'unstaple' and that takes more time away from them.

You probably saw one of my posts ;) I always, always, ALWAYS suggest paperclips over staples ;)

Saylin,

I've read the wiki and the NVC site many times and I want to be clear on something. When sending in paperwork to NVC it is all abt beneficiary correct? So divorce papers would only be for them correct? Can't seem to get a straight answer but that's how I read it

TIA

For 1040 they said to follow line 22, which was exactly i did.

Because line 22 says adjusted gross income they you dont want to put.

You need total income written on line 14 or 15

Line 22 is adjust gross income ONLY for Form 1040A, Line 22 for Form 1040 is Total Income (which is the correct amount).

Let's clear up this confusion

for Form 1040: Use line 22 (Total Income)

for Form 1040A: Use line 15 (Total Income)

for Form 1040EZ: Use line 4 (Adjusted Gross Income)

Are you referring to the IV package? If so, yes, that package is about the beneficiary. The only time petitioner documents are required is for IR-5 visa applicants, as it states on NVC's website.

One thing that I have learn in this entire process is that there is no such thing as doing too much. Give them everything you have even if they did not request it, that's how you stay away from a checklist.

Quick question...

Does anybody know usually how long after the last scan at NVC are you safe from getting a dreaded checklist? Do checklists happen before or after the 60 day review time?

Thanks!
