I have a question regarding having a lawyer during NVC process. I have heard with lawyer the process moves quickly.
So, if I have a lawyer does that mean everything regarding my case will be emailed to my lawyer and not to us? Or the emails related to my case will be sent to us also?
Also I want to know does the lawyer will have the complete possesion of my case or he/she will just be an extra help? I want my NVC process be quick and the fees unlock quickly. But I am unable to decide.
Kindly help.

From personal experience lawyer didnt help. Its been 7 months and im still at NVC. My lawyer and his paralegal filled out my AOS incorrectly and i got a checklist. Dont waste ur time and money on a lawyer. If i had been introduced to VJ earlier, i wld have never hired a lawyer. And yes all of you are notified by Email as long as you provide your email on the forms in the beginning. Hope this helps.

I agree 100000%. Attorney was not only a waste of money, it cost us two months of delay due to an incorrectly prepared AOS!

Thank you:)!!

You and we have waited for the case close for a long time..

It's been one year since we sent out our I-130 in Oct last year.

I hope you and we will finish this crazy visa journey. Everyone elese too:)

You are very welcome. We also received a Checklist for the same thing. I'm glad I could help you guys. :)

My hubby is a U.S. Citizen. I am a Canadian citizen. I have no idea why its taking this long. We hired a lawyer so that things cld go smoothly. However, our lawyer's paralegal made a stupid mistake on our AOS and our lawyer overlooked it and we got a checklist in July.

Weird still, a checklist response shouldn't take so long! I'm sorry you're going through this. I just sent my packet yesterday and they received it today. I don't know when they'll enter it in their system, but I hope soon and I hope all is good.

Unfortunately corrected Checklist documents are reviewed in THE SAME 60 Day waiting line as original document submissions. Yes, it's crazy, but it's true. I'm waiting on a Checklist review as well :(

mine only has 13.a.1 and it says I put the wrong income. I looked at my tax returns and its correct so I'm calling. Still waiting...25 mins so far

I got a checklist for the same thing a month ago. Its a common mistake. The wording in the instructions confused me.

We received a checklist for the same item.

Remember, it depends what Tax Form you filed last year. This is an item a lot of people seem to make a mistake on.

For 1040EZ - it is Adjusted Gross Income

For 1040 or 1040A - it is Total Income (not Adjusted Gross Income)

I hope they are wrong and you don't need to submit a correction!!

Hey guys, just spoke with NVC rep. Unlike every other representative, I have met the nicest guy ever. His name is Gus, and he told me that, when your case is about to close up, they generate automatic checklist.

He also told me my Hubby's councelet is in Mumbai not Chennai. My hubby is from Bangalore and our scane date is Augest 14....

Good luck everyone.

Thank you, but I am in a dilemma. A November interview will mean me entering the US in December, one month before my second wedding anniversary. If I get the interview in late December, I can go to US after my second wedding anniversary. I know calling embassy I can schedule a later interview but my current circumstances are unbearable and I want out ASAP.

Dont re schedule your interview. Just enter US (PEO) after your 2nd year anniversary, and you will get unconditional GC.

I have a question regarding having a lawyer during NVC process. I have heard with lawyer the process moves quickly.

Not anymore. Before if you had lawyer you used to get IV fee earlier but that has changed now. no need to pay lawyer anymore.

Please, if anyone reads this...I could use some advice...Thank you.

lawyer isnt really needed. you need to apply for overstay waiver, i believe it is i601 form. This site also has separate section for waivers so ask your question there. Embassy wont issue your husband a visa unless he gets waiver first.

Got the same thing too!!!! Good luck!

Apart from the USCIS wait time, we have a similar NVC timeline huh!?

I'm going for my "wedding party" in two weeks! Explanation: we had our wedding set down as a destination wedding in Tasmania on the 18th of October. When we realised how long the visa process was going to take, we had a small "signing / legal" ceremony in June but everyone had already booked their flights & accom for Tasmania so we turned it into a "wedding party" down there :) Pretty excited, this is where I get to wear the pretty dress. I love being already married, takes soo much pressure off!

I am the beneficiary. My husband is the petitioning USC.

Why would a waiver be needed? I though said husband was just turned back at POE !

hmscott... was your husbanded apprehended inside the US out of status? If this is the case, then unless you're absolutely sure what to do, get a lawyer asap. Oh... and give your hubby a kick in the back side from me... for taking the whole thing so lightly.
