Well that seems to be the implication doesn't it. I think some people seriously believe that it should simply be a case of people being loaded onto buses at gunpoint with no right of appeal or process of law.

Seems to me that's what happened a few decades ago, when if you were hispanic looking and out in public without ID you could be swept up and sent to Mexico as part of Operation Wetback.

What's even scarier is that there's a member here who trying really hard to bring this back...

amazing that we've no issue 'helping' other countries abroad. problems show up at our own door, children no less, and we want nothing but to turn away.

It's mind boggling how we continuously repeat this problem here and it's not party specific. We constantly ignore the very big problems that we have here in the US and throw millions upon millions of dollars at foreign countries to help with their problems. Makes no sense.

We spend billions on foreign aid, yet we have millions of homeless people on the street(in DC no less). We go fight wars in countries, but have war zones here that folks could care less about(more children have died in Chicago than Afghanistan and Iraq). Talk about bass ackwards.

It truly is a backwards way of thinking. The other issue we have is how we treat our veterans, it's shameful. Yet we'll dump a few billion into arming some militant group that in 2 years time will be using our own weapons against us.

I know. I can only pray the VA up in RI isn't like the one down here. I am embarrassed when I have to take my grandfather there. Talk about dirty and dingy, the street is cleaner than the inside of the building.

maybe laws shouldn't apply to them

If you believe that so strongly, then work to change the laws. Believe it or not, there's a system in place to do this. The gubmint officially ignoring laws, or giving its 'winking approval' to lawbreaking gives citizens (and illegals) the impression of lawlessness, which is exactly what it is.

if i believe so strongly? you're the one taking issue. as far as these children go, the government is following the law (signed by bush) that details how this is to be handled. there is concern considering the great danger these kids face and how we can discourage this from occuring. but just like any other country dealing with a flow people arriving from devastated areas - we can't completely stop the trend. even if we could - stopping wouldn't resolve the issue of all the children already here.

and please try to refrain from acting like my father in telling me what to do, it's creepy and makes me a bit nauseous.

When it comes to the government, Unclebeer is a bit like Captain Ahab. And Obama is his white whale.

These folks have been living in "devastated areas" for decades. That poses the question, why did these unaccompanied minors all of the sudden think it was a good idea to illegally enter the U.S.? Could it be because of DACA? When you send a message that there's a program in place to grant folks that came here illegally as children legal status, it's silly to think that wouldn't encourage more minors to enter the U.S. illegally. To blame the sudden influx on a law signed by Bush in 2008, is factually incorrect. Where were these minors in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, ? If a policy that Bush jr. instituted is somehow the cause of this massive influx, why didn't they start coming then?

no, i wasn't blaming the influx on the law - i was saying that the law is the reason we can't just return them as we do children from mexico. some of the blame goes to DACA, would anyone who has any knowledge of the situation say otherwise? but that isn't the sole reason for the influx. the war on drugs (the gift that keeps on giving) and our inability to reform legal immigration plays a part as well. still, none of this makes the problem go away.
