A Couple of questions..

I apologize ahead of time if these questions aren't in the "right place" or missed a previous response to a similar question. Thank you so much for your help.

#1 I got a letter from the Department of State about my husband potentially having refugee status because he was born in Iraq and is now living in the UAE. He was basically invited to interview even though he's actually Egyptian- he was born in Iraq but lived for most of his life in Egypt. Has anyone heard of this?

#2 Since my husband was born in Iraq but is Egyptian, his parents had to turn in his Iraqi birth certificate to a government center in Egypt when he went to Egypt to live. He doesn't have an Iraqi birth certificate nor will he have access to one. His Egyptian birth certificate is in English/Arabic. When I called NVC about this I was told that he should get an affidavit from his mother about his birth country, date, location, etc- get it translated and notarized. Well, how do you get things notarized in Egypt? His mother has already gone to two different places with no success.

Thanks!

Hey Mobar,

In Septembers thread I noticed you mentioned Lord of the Rings, I don't know if you ever got a chance to read it but if not: I recommend reading 'The last Ringbearer'. It is an alternative telling of the LOTR lore, from the point of view of the 'bad guys'. It was written in 1999 by a russian author, Kirill yeskov, and then translated into English 11 years later. It is quite a good read.

I will link the free pdf in case you are interested: The last Ringbearer.

Oh Thank You... I would love to read it... Poor fictional bad guys rarely have a second look-in. Looked in Amazon and Barnes & Nobel but couldn't find it. Amazon has a Spanish edition !!! Could you please tell me of the official source of the pdf?

You mean you fired Supervisor Sylvia!!?? :wow:

Soloenta... I missed this one. That was some gutsy power move !

If I could only fire my Consular Officer.

I'm not sure if it is the 'official source', since it still is considered fan fiction -although widely agreed as quite read-worthy- there is no official printed version as far as I know. Copyright and all that nonsense.

I found the publication here. More information is here, and here.

Our journey so far:
May '13: Met at university in the Netherlands
25 Jun '13: Became an official couple!
28 Dec ’13: Proposed to her

12 Feb '14 Visited my wife for 12 days in Ohio (12 through 24 February). POE Chicago, harassment level very low.

24 Feb ’14: Got married in Ohio.
25 Mar ’14: I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox.
27 Mar ’14: I-130 NOA1 (text & email)
04 Apr ’14: I-130 NOA1 (letter)
18 Jun '14: I-130 NOA2 (text & email)
26 Jun '14: Case received by NVC

10 Jul '14: Case# assigned (received along with the INN and BIN on the 15th via phone)
28 Jul '14 Received DS-261 & AOS Bill

29 Jul '14 Submitted DS-261 & paid AOS bill
02 Aug '14 AOS fee shows "Paid"

05 Aug '14 Sent AOS package

06 Aug '14 AOS package received (scanned) by NVC (eventually confirmed by Arthur on 07 Aug '14)

14 Aug '14 Visiting my Wife in Ohio for 64 days (Until October 17th). POE Philadelphia, harassment level low.

08 Sep '14 IV bill received & paid

10 Sep '14 IV shows up as paid, IV package sent

12 Sep '14 DS-260 submitted

20 Sep '14 IV package returned to me by the US postal service Great *sigh*

22 Sep '14 Re-sending IV package (Priority Mail 2-day Delivery)

24 Sep '14 IV package arrived (USPS tracking confirmed)

24 Sep '14 IV package received (scanned, 60 day email sent)

05 Oct '14 AOS package accepted (60 days after 06 Aug) Stupid NVC now reviews both packages together, using the last scandate.

23 Oct '14 Checklist received for AOS, missed a couple checkboxes and now I'll have to miss my wife an extra 2 months

05 Nov '14 AOS-Checklist scanned in

23 Dec '14 Case complete!

21 Jan '15 Medical
24 Feb '15 Interview -Approved! (issued as of 25 Feb '15)

27 Feb '15 Visa in hand, feels good.
07 Mar '15 POE at DTW, easy as pie.

17 Mar '15 Got my SS card in the mail --Elis still says 'Optimised' though

21 Apr '15 Got my Green Card in the mail!

You have to apply from scratch to get a different CO. I think this is DOS policy. I actually overheard the CO next-window (during my interview) telling the same to another gentleman. He was a USC trying to overcome a previous denial dished out to his wife by a different CO.

I just notice the statement "not for commercial distribution" under the pdf's copyright, so I guess it's shareware. Thanks for the confirmation.

I've called NVC at least once a week since my NO2 on 9/2/14. Called yesterday and was told that they received they just received the case the day before on 9/29/14. CS rep told me to wait 30 days to be assigned a case number and pay fees. I will be calling once a week until I receive the case number.
