We plan to fly with a fair amount of luggage, including my wife's jewelry. I intend to write the following in the customs form without declaring a value:

"First time immigrants' personal belongings, owned for more than a year (Duty Free)."

Would that suffice?

MoBar, when I moved back from Hong Kong, the official term was "household goods". I don't think the Customs people would appreciate your telling them it's Duty Free. That's up to them to determine. I would say "household goods and clothing". And it might be good to have things like your previous insurance riders to show that the jewelry is not new.

Please l need clarification.

Once the embassy receives the package, how long does it take for them to scan it in and how long does it take the CEAC site to update to READY.

According to an earlier post from k.dlg, it can take a couple of business days for the status to change to Ready after the DHL package is delivered. I would imagine it depends on the embassy and their current workload.

Since it takes 1-3 business days on average, it will probably take about 3 weeks for me.

London "In Transit" peeps: The DHL package en route to London is currently out for delivery. It should be delivered imminently. I hope our case files are in there and that the USEM scans them in on Monday.

good morning all i have been hearing mixed things lately about Montreal interviews, do we still go early and line up or are they making us wait till the hour before the scheduled time? any help with this would be greatly appreciated as our interview is on oct 23rd.

I just realized that it could take up to 2 weeks to reach Montreal if Canada Customs held your package (but it usually takes 1 day via Express).

I noticed your interview is in 2 weeks from next Monday.

You may want to call NVC and talk to a supervisor to see if they can send your package to Montreal ASAP.

I'm not too concerned about mine since my interview is more than 3 weeks away.

I will be calling them today. Why do they have to make it so stressful and painful right up until the last possible step. I thought my days of calling the NVC were over!

I have not seen any waybills headed to Montreal lately, and I have not seen any Canadians post that their case is in transit. Just Mandiimoose who did e-filing. Getting an interview booked on Oct 3rd, for Nov 3rd, and getting the P4 letter 1 business day later, I really did not expect this. NVC never ceases to dissapoint me.

Oh wait, it took them only 56 days to process my last document I sent in July, instead of the alotted "60" they had advised. One small victory.

Just wanted to update the group on Post NVC to the London Embassy, so others have an idea on the timeline for this process.

CEAC Site changed to "In Transit" on Wed. 10/15
CEAC Site changed to "Ready" this morning Fri. 10/17

I read a post on FB last night that someone said the NVC actually ships your docs the day before your CEAC updates to "In Transit". I think that is the case :)

Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend.
