November 2014 Interviews

Hi, everybody I have a question I hope you

Can help me.

I got married in Argentina, my wife lives in Guatemala and I live in US.

Last time I got a marriage certificate was on November 2013, I don't have a recent one because since we are not in Argentina is so hard to get it. You guys think that will be an issue at the time of interview???

If the document is from Guatemala (RENAP), I think the embassy expects it should be issued within six months of the interview, documents issued outside of Guatemala (i.e. U.S. and maybe Argentina) that were issued more than 6 months from the interview shouldn't be a problem - at least that was my experience.

Oh no don't worry. I believe the only certificate they ask you to renew is the police certificate. That too, if it has been over a year.

In Guatemala, police certificates expire 6 months after the date of issuance. It may be different in other countries.

I'm worry about the marriage certificate. The police certificate are easy to get.

Hi.. Hope somebody from Canada can answer my question. I was wondering if the US consulate in Montreal is the only place where immigrant visa interviews are being conducted? Or do they also do it in other embassies such as the one in Alberta? Also how early should you do your medical exam prior to the interview? Thanks!

I'm not from Canada, but the consulate in Montreal is indeed the only one that does immigrant visa interviews. You need to book your medical when you get the interview letter because they'll want to see it when you show up.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

Yes Montreal is the only place where spousal visa interviews are done. I believe they also do fiancé interviews in Vancouver. As soon as you get your interview letter, you can do your medical. I'm doing mine the week before.

Only Montreal for interview for spouse/family of a US citizen. Book and do your medical ASAP after you receive your interview/P4 letter. And be warned some doctors take way longer to get the results back! I made the mistake of going to the one in Vaughan ON because it was a somewhat easier drive for me to get to (still over 2 hours). I should have gone to the one in Toronto because I think that's where Austincanada went and he got his results the next day. The place I went took 2 FULL WEEKS! And then I got them the next business day - 15 total days later! And I had to follow up with them to get them to follow up with the people to get the blood results back, so that they could actually finish my packet and send it! The last thing I needed was more stress.

Where are you? Many people have to fly for both their medical and of course the interview. Good luck!!

Actually, I went to the doctor in BC (since I live in Vancouver) and got my results the next day!

Got my interview in a little over a week. Can I just do a sense check of what I'm taking with me in terms of paperwork, and see if I'm missing anything please?!

  • Print out of the DS-260 confirmation (the one with the barcode on the bottom?!)
  • Print out of the Interview confirmation email/letter
  • Copy of my husband's most recent W2 (we had a checklist related to it, so taking it to be 100% sure)
  • A recent police certificate and 1 x photocopy
  • Passport pics
  • Passport (obviously)
  • A few bits like paypal payments between is, wedding pics, holiday pics, skype records etc.

Have I missed anything?!

NVC already has original marriage certificate, original of my birth certificate.

Thanks is advance for any help!

I think you also need the confirmation from the courier website. I read on there somewhere we have to take it to the interview.

I'm not looking forward to doing the Skype records again. I know you only need a few pages, but it's sifting through all the gibberish to get to the good bits that winds me up!

I would take the certifieds of the marriage and birth certificate with you because sometimes NVC is brilliant and forgets to shove the necessary items into your package. Same goes for affidavit of support, though if you can't get original signed stuff shipped over quick enough, don't worry too much. NVC doesn't always forget things.

Yeah, I wouldn't have known about it either if I hadn't read about it on VJ! There are official instructions on the embassy's website about it too: http://london.usembassy.gov/mail.html

I think worst case scenario, if you haven't arranged anything on the courier's website, they let you do it at the interview but they get a bit shirty about it. Your mileage may vary!
