i had to explain to my husband that it is not ok to say #### you and stick up the middle finger to people driving on the dan ryan expressway, and if he continued to do so, he may find himself in a lot of trouble...lol anyone from chicago knows what im talking about

yeah, that one can cause problems, and you don't have to be on the dan ryan, either!

Good to see you again!

This actually brought to mind a serious discussion every woman here should have with their S.O., tempers tend to flair alot back home. This is one thing many guys are gonna have to learn how to control. Even if he is not really a hot head, this may affect you. If you are walking in a mall and another man checks you out, it would be enough to get an a$$ whooping back home but they can't do that here. I have talked to my fiance about this alot and tried to explain to him what people here do and don't do.

He understands me well, but I always think about that honor thing in the back of my mind. That is one that about arabic men, their strong sense of pride and honor, and if they feel anyone has threatened, disrespected, or hurt their S.O., they might overreact. Back home they don't get arrested for this kind of stuff, but here you most definitly do.

agreed 100%...but dont be suprised if he doesn't believe you or thinks you are the one overreacting to him! haha. They all learn somehow, though.

I understand the temper thing when it has to do with honor. When my father was falsely accoused of sexual misconduct by my sisters oldest daughter, Noor was ready to go kill her, literally. He said why don't they do something to her for this..It was hard to explain to him that here, we have to wait for the judicial system to do its thing and everybodies lives are in limbo and are based on the decision of the court, not beating the accuser up or killing her...

eta: not my sisters oldest daughter, but my sisters HUSBANDS oldest daughter..

I can't remember how this came up in conversation with my fiance but we have talked about it. He was surprised that he could get in trouble for doing anything about some guy staring at me. I was surprised he wouldn't if I were where he was.

Goes both ways I guess. He is not a violent person but he understands, since I explained to him, that he can't go kicking any booty here unless he wants to risk getting in trouble.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

When Usama gets angry he forgets English. I won't get into details but this person in his building angered the heck out of him and put him in such a state and while he was in that state he kept talking to me in Arabic for like twenty minutes.

I just stared at him and smiled politely and then later when he calmed down explained to him that even when he's angry I don't understand arabic. :energetic:

 Not funny what happened, but it's like talking louder to someone who doesn't understand your language. Louder doesn't mean they'll understand. :D

Oh he knows some. If he lives in Cairo he knows American swear words...esp the F word. My husband is from and has lived in a farming town all his life and he knows plenty of American curse words. He even warned me not to say the F word since everyone knows it and knows what it means. Once I nearly burned myself lighting the stove and screamed out **!!! My SIL was in the bathroom, heard me, and yelled at me  Me thinks Usama is trying to play innocent with ya ;)

I guess I will have to tell him all the swear words since he doesn't know any. Maybe I'll just rent that George Carlin video where he says them all. :jest:

That could be I guess. I mean he does say some swear words but he doesn't use them as swear words. For example, he was trying to point out a woman one time and he said, "I mean that b!tch over there". Thing is though..he didn't mean it in the bad way...he meant it as "that girl over there" but someone apparently taught him that "b!tch" is the word for girl.

There are other things too but they are kind of things I can't say outloud but suffice it to say I think he learned all of the english names for male and female body parts from a really really dirty book or something. :jest: After the initial shock I let him know the more acceptible terms for things and when I told him how the other names aren't such a great idea to say outloud (unless he really wants to that is ;) ) he was SHOCKED!!!!!!

Egyptians are wiser than that...he knows exactly what b@tch means. They watch American/European programming and movies. They know what is derogatory and what isn't. They don't live in caves. The innocent act would worry me. I'd call him out on it and tell him he doesn't have to do that with you. Some Egyptian men really do think that women dig the clueless, innocent act. They think they're pulling a fast one. Don't let him!
