It made me sad to see the other thread go so downhill so I thought I would try to start another one since I do think there are many things we can learn from each other on this subject. I don't venture much past the first page so if another thread for this was started already, I apologize.

You may not get a job the day you apply. You have to call every day until they get tired of hearing from you and either tell you to leave them alone or hire you.

Many medicines that you can get over the counter back home you need a prescription for here - and those are hard to come by, and expensive. So, bring a good sized supply of your own medicine with you.

Also, when your sweetie gets here, take him on a tour of your medicine cabinet.

To get a prescription you also need a doctor's appt. Usama didn't understand that concept at all.

Ahmed seems a little confused on the fact that i can stay home from work (sick) and still get paid and when i try to explain accumulated vacation/sick leave. I have tried to explain to him no in your first few years at a job you probably wont be allowed a month off to go back home. We already went thru the drug store thing, i told him i had been to the drug store, "thats allowed there" so im sure that will be one of first stops and that alot of medicines can come from the normal grocery store.

also he could not understand why i would leave the heat on all day when i was at work (with snow and ice one the ground)

One thing to remember to NOT give your SO is ..FLEXERIL (or generic name is cyclobenzaprine)...

My husband got a prescription from the doctor for that due to some pain from pulled muscles..

Ok, that is normal, right??...NOOOO... ok let me 'splain.. we have a dog . A dog he likes but hates to have in the house due to reasons I have discussed in previous threads. ok so he won't touch the floor with bare feet coz of the potential of touching the dog hair. (hehe silly but true)... anyway.. so he took one of the muscle relaxers and within about 30 minutes, he was FACE DOWN AND FLAT OUT ON THE FLOOR!!!!! I said, come to bed..he waved his fingers and said "I'm ok just leave me to lay here all the night" hehehe...He is afraid to take them now so we use Ibuprofen..... Takes longer but relaxes the muscles just enough....hehehehe
