Hi everyone!

I am a bit confused yet again. According to the LingChe NVC ShortCut guide I don't have to get the certificate in a country I haven't lived in for more than 12 months (apart from my country of citizenship):

  • NOTE1: Police Certificate is required for any place in their country of citizenship; the beneficiary has lived longer than six (6) months, after age of 16.
  • NOTE2: Police Certificate is required for any places which beneficiary has lived longer than twelve (12) months in any other country other than country of citizenship, after age of 16.

But at the same time in the instruction I received from the embassy it says this:

You must obtain a police certificate from your country of nationality and the country of your

current residence if your presence there was for 6 months or more after age 16. Police certificates from other countries
are also required if your stay was for 12 months or more after age 16.

The thing is, I'll be having my interview in Korea and I've lived here for more than 6 months but less than 12 months. I am guessing the embassy's instruction must be valid, right? Not sure if I should get a police certificate. I do have my russian one + translation though.

yes. Embassy instructions are right. It is written somewhere else: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html

Police Certificates

If you are 16 years of age or older, you must submit a photocopy of a police certificate from the following locations:

Country of nationality At least 16 years of age At least 6 months
Country of residence At least 16 years of age At least 6 months
Country of previous residence At least 16 years of age At least 1 year
Any country where you were arrested Any age For any timeframe

You should get a Korean police certificate. The good part is that you don't have to translate it!
