What? O'bama, lie? The hell you say. Just ignore all that "keep your doctor" stuff, and the "shovel-ready jobs" jive, and the "reduce the debt" double-talk. <_<

POLL: 72% DO NOT BELIEVE OBAMA'S 'NO BOOTS ON THE GROUND' PROMISE A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll finds that, despite President Barack Obama's promises to the contrary, 72% of Americans believe the United States will end up using combat troops in the war against the Islamic State (ISIS).

Americans were divided in whether they favored putting boots on the ground, with 37% opposed and 45% backing the move should military commanders deem it necessary to defeat Islamic State terrorists.

Given the clarity of Obama's promise not to launch a ground war--"As your commander-in-chief, I will not commit you and the rest of our Armed Forces to fighting another ground war in Iraq"--the poll raises questions about whether the nation has begun discounting Obama's rhetoric altogether. Indeed, just 20% of poll respondents said the U.S. won't commit ground forces.

OK: let's see if you can keep a civil conversation going.

How is this then "tin foil hat" territory if the vast majority of Americans believe that the preznit doesn't deserve their trust?

Or are you just pointlessly throwing rocks? <_<

I don't get the tin foil bit on this one either. 72% is a strong majority in this day and time. Also it is not much of a stretch to think ground troops will be needed to stop these people.

72% is like everyone that is not a denier. Only ones left are the You Racist if you don't like Obama crowd

Yet more proof:

Intel officials warned Obama about ISIS ‘for over a year’

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) said the intelligence community had warned President Obama about the threat from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria for “over a year.”

“This was not an Intelligence Community failure, but a failure by policy makers to confront the threat,” Rogers said in a statement Monday.

His statement comes after the president said that intelligence officers had underestimated ISIS in an interview that aired on “60 Minutes” Sunday.
“For over a year, U.S. intelligence agencies specifically warned that ISIL was taking advantage of the situation in Syria to recruit members and provoke violence that could spill into Iraq and the rest of the region,” Rogers said in a statement on Monday, using an alternate name for the group.

Rogers said his committee had formally pressed the administration to act against the terror threat in 2013.

The funny thing is that responding to generalisations with more generalisations doesn't further the conversation much at all.

The obvious conclusion to draw from this is that you aren't interested in conversation.

my response to this poll would be that i don't believe there won't be boots on the ground either. but like ming said, there's a portion of the us that doesn't want us to get involved at all. the issue of if obama is lying or not doesn't really matter.

You don't think your President lying to America is important.

Yes I know Bush did it to, and others have done it. Still does not make it right . Many Presidents have played loose with the truth, but I don't recall one that lied like this, since Nixon

I have no idea - Obama is only in office for what... another 18 months? It seems unlikely to me that he will start a ground war in that time, unless something seriously drastic happens that compels the US to enter the conflict.

As to whether a future US President will enter the conflict? Well... that's an open question isn't it.

why do you think that any american president doesn't lie to america? get over obama - ok? he'll be gone soon enough and our 'interventions' in the middle east will for sure still be going strong.

of course obama is saying there won't be boots on the ground. the job of the president is to tell america what it wants to hear.

and seriously THIS president is the big liar? heard of the friggin iraq war nb? please. you're letting all that rw gibberish you listen to distract you. obama is not the problem, it's much bigger than one man.

it seems highly likely to me that it will be presented as "we have to go in - we don't have a choice" in a few months. that's what i expect and not much less.

Nixon was a Republican, so it was ok if he lied.

What's the point of this thread again?

A poll asking people if they believe what a second half of a second term president says about how an indeterminate situation will play out in the middle east? Not much time wasting going on here is there?

I am quite sure that the president is acting in what the broad spectrum political elite believe is the best interests of the US, which is basically to keep the flow of middle eastern oil coming. I am quite sure that the president believes that he can accomplish his current set of goals in the middle east theater without putting US troops on the ground. Nothing else is really relevant but if you want to get bent out of shape on what people believe might happen at some indeterminate future time, sure, waste your time on that.

I'm pretty sure it's all part of his plan to destroy the country.
