“You’ve said that we are not going to be the Shiite air force,” Kroft said. “We’re not going to be the Kurdistan air force. I’m not going to be the Iraqi air force. But in effect, with the allies, that’s what we have become. We have become the Iraqi air force.”

“With the allies, with their ground troops, and if we do our job right and the Iraqis fight, then over time our role can slow down and taper off,” Obama said. “And their role reasserts itself. But all that depends. And nobody’s clearer than I am about this. That the Iraqis have to be willing to fight. And they have to be willing to fight in a nonsectarian way. Shiite, Sunni, and Kurd alongside each other against this cancer in their midst.”

“I think everybody applauds the efforts that you’ve made and the size of the coalition that has been assembled,” Kroft added. “But most of them are contributing money or training or policing the borders, not getting particularly close contact. It looks like once again we are leading the operation. We are carrying –”

“That’s always the case,” Obama said. “America leads. We are the indispensable nation. We have capacity no one else has. Our military is the best in the history of the world. And when trouble comes up anywhere in the world, they don’t call Beijing. They don’t call Moscow. They call us. …That’s how we roll.

This is the entire problem with the USA.

Iraq did not call us. Afghanistan did not call us. Nor Pakistan. Nor Libya. Nor Syria. Nor Somalia. Etc. I recall demonstrations all over the world when Iraq was attacked, and I think the British were the largest in history.

Our "Best in the World" military lost in Viet Nam. It has the same situation now with most of Iraq. It has lost in Afghanistan. It just left Libya in the very state it was supposedly there to prevent. We are absolutely delusional and a President is merely reflecting those delusions when he says such things.

This last time, I think a few countries did...and it is partially our fault so it makes sense that they would.

If we had just stayed out of WW2....everything would be fine.

In a nutshell...the world needs the US military. If we were to just put our head in the sand...the world would be much worse than it is now.

as a country we're perfectly capable of bombing, or going to war (without saying its war) all while keeping our heads nice and buried. spare me.

The world is better for those conflicts?

Yes. Things would be much worse if we just stood by and did nothing.

When, for example when the civilized world agree to attack Iraq.....the course of history was changed.

It would be like if we killed Hitler in 1938. It would have changed everything. Yet....some people would still be upset....much like they are with Iraq.
