To visit, she will need to apply for a tourist visa. You do nothing for that. She will need to apply at the consulate in her country. There should be info about it on the consulate's website.

If you want to petition for her to come live in the US with you later, then you need to do that after you are a US citizen and file for an IR-5: Parent of US citizen.

Hi,

For her to be able to visit, she needs a tourist visa, which would be very difficult to get now that she has a daughter who is about to become a USC. She would need proof of very strong ties to her country.

You cannot petition for her until you are officially a USC, meaning that you have taken the oath and have the certificate in your hand. You can have all of the paperwork ready, like the petition, BC and fee, and then send the package on the day you get your certificate. Good luck.

IR5 would be for your mother to immigrate which you can petition for after you are a citizen and takes years. The B2 visa is a tourist only visit visa and can be gotten in 2 weeks if approved.

You didn't mention the country. It makes a difference if she is from a visa waiver program country. She needs a B2 tourist visa if the VWP doesn't apply. Difficult yes but not impossible. You can't petition nor send letters of invitation for a B2 for you mother; that's a myth.

B2 visa is 3 steps.

1. Complete form online at the local consulate web site and schedule the interview.

2. Pay the non refundable visa fee at the place of payment specified by the consulate. They keep the money even if denied.

3. Go to the interview which will by 2-5 minutes long, probably won't want to see any papers she bought and ask only a hand full of questions.

If approved they mail the passport back to her house in 1-2 weeks. If denied she just gets the passport handed back with nothing stamped inside.

The only way you can help is complete the online form on her behalf and schedule the interview. The online form has a tick box if you were assisted in completing this form. You would tick yes and put your contact info. Then e-mail your mother a copy of the conformation page. I think it would be better if she completed the form herself.

The OP is filing for citizenship now, and it should take about 5 to 6 months. The mom would only take about another year to receive a visa.
