Have green card, sponsor now wants to withdraw support

Hey guys,

Long time no see.

I immigrated successfully into the US and got my green card, yay! I'm now working and happily settled here in Texas and life is good, except...

When I immigrated, my wife didn't make enough to meet minimum income requirements, so we asked her father to help us out by co-sponsoring our petition during the immigration phase.

Unfortunately, her father, who was once abusive and alcoholic, has relapsed into alcoholism and my wife has cut him out of her life.

Yesterday in the early hours he called us screaming and threatening to withdraw his immigration support.

Now, as far as I know, we have nothing to worry about -- our relationship is and always has been totally bona fide and we have proof (texts) of him threatening to get me deported because he's angry at my wife.

Do we have anything to worry about?

Once approved he can't withdraw it.

Pull up an I -864 and read the last page. It tells the only ways he can get out of the contract. Withdrawing is not an option.

Only way his obligation stops is

When you become USC,

If you abandon your LPR status

If the beneficiary dies

If the sponsor dies

Etc

Other than that, too late.

You must be both a green card holder living in the USA and married to the person who petitioned you. Length of marriage doesn't matter.

The former. You must have GC for 3 years to be eligible for naturalization if you are applying on the basis of marriage to a USC.

You can actually file the N-400 at 2 years 9 months from the date you became a conditional/permanent resident based on marriage. You must still be married to the original petitioner when you file at 2 years 9 months. However, even if you file at 2 years 9 months, you can not take the actual oath until the 3 year date. This is usually not an issue because it takes at least 3 months for the biometrics, interview, and scheduling of the oath ceremony. It took 4 moths total in our case and ours moved fairly quickly.

When you apply you need to:

- have been a permanent resident for 3 years

- have been married to (and living with) your US citizen spouse for 3 years

and your spouse needs to have been a citizen for 3 years.

If you meet all of these criteria, you can apply 90 days before the three year anniversary of your permanent residence.

Iank it's not normal to transfer both AOS. We have here some cases that people submitted two AOS,but they transferred.just one.NBC will find out about the mistake when they see two cases there .
