US: Immigrant Families Fail To Report To Agents

An official with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that about 70 percent of immigrant families the Obama administration had released into the U.S. never showed up weeks later for follow up appointments.

The ICE official made the disclosure in a confidential meeting at its Washington headquarters with immigration advocates participating in a federal working group on detention and enforcement policies. The Associated Press obtained an audio recording of Wednesday’s meeting and separately interviewed participants.

On the recording obtained by the AP, the government did not specify the total number of families released into the U.S. since October. Since only a few hundred families have already been returned to their home countries and limited U.S. detention facilities can house only about 1,200 family members, the 70 percent figure suggests the government released roughly 41,000 members of immigrant families who subsequently failed to appear at federal immigration offices.

i believe this article has been posted already.

I guess repeating the consequences of the preznit's treacherous and duplicitous policies is 'bad form' in your book?

For someone who can't find the "caps" key, all of a sudden you're all about proper posting.

If you broke the law to get here, were told that nothing would happen to you when you got here, that you would be released with a Notice to Appear and that they won't come looking for you, would you show up? They know our policies well and were educated on it before they came. What's the worst thing could happen, that someday they find you, you get your hearing and get deported? For the majority I would say they have no legal right to be here anyway so what's the loss? It's like being asked to pay a speeding ticket if you feel like it, would you?

Actually, I was suprised any of them bothered showing up at their hearings. Apparently some of them do not understand what the processing officers meant by "you will be in trouble if you don't show up, cough cough hint hint wink wink" So having said that, let's all feign total and complete surprise that they showed contempt of another one of our useless non-enforced laws!

~~Personal attack removed. You guys know better.~~

define "know" in this case

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

Don't worry Robbo, it wasn't directed at you. And never will be so long as you don't make personal attacks against other VJ members. :content:

What is the point of having laws if they are not enforced?

The point is to say that because the relevant agencies don't enforce the laws, those laws must be broken and in need of comprehensive reform, to make them less of a chore not to enforce. <_<
