NYGirl,

Why?

Yodrak

You only need to notorize the support document. Other documents, such as birth certificates and divorce finals need to be certified by the issuing agency.

What about translating emails, chats and etc?

can i translate them myself since i do speak english and russian fluently

In your initial petition, why are you submitting e-mails, chats, etc...?

As a proof of an ongoing relationship???

As a proof of an ongoing relationship???

Proof of an ongoing bonafide relationship is done at the interview. Understand what you are trying to accomplish with the initial petition and provide the needed evidence to do so.

YMMV

Wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to just read the instructions on the form?

You need to prove:

You are a USC and therefore have the right to file the petition. Birth certificate or complete copy of your passport

You and your fiance have met in the prior 2 years

The I-129F petition is not notarized. (Notarizing only indicates that you are indeed the person you say you are).

kitkat,

VJ heresy? Why read instructions when you can let someone else do that for you.

So the banking statements, pay stubs, W2 forms, work papers......DON'T have to be notorized?

NO, because notarizing them does not do anything to improve the validity/integrity/certification of those document. If you understand what the function of a notary is, then it becomes much simpler to understand what kinds of documents will be better served.

The only document so far that has required a notary is the I-134 because the notary is validating MY signature to the document.

In the original submission of the I-129F:

The translation of the birth certificate should be notarized, as well as the "certificate" from the translator.

The Letters of Intent to Marry are recommended to be notarized

why would you need a translation of a birth certificate for the i-129f? if you were born outside the us but THEN became a us citizen? we don't need a copy of the beneficiary's birth certificate for the initial forms, right?

Some (not all) petitioners have received RFE's for beneficiary's bc so it may be a pre-emptive strike situation.

I also think it's a good idea to get the BC at the time of filing the I-129F so you can make sure the name on the BC matches the other documents exactly. You don't want to find out later there is a problem with that.

I copied the inside front cover of my fiance's passport (to include as part of proof that we had met in person - via passport stamps) and included it. Sort of a two birds/one stone thingy. ;)

I believe that if you are fluent in both languages you can do your own translations. Claudeth had to get her German police clearance translated and we took that to a professional to be safe even though she could translate it herself.

garya505,

You make a very good point. For some languages that do not use the Roman alphabet there is no one consistent transliteration system. I have known of situations where inconsistent transliteration of names on translated of documents has held up issuance of the visa while the alternate spelling are run through the name checks.

jasman,

To be precise, one must be literate in both languages. Fluency is of little value if one cannot read and write.

Ya, my fiancee's cousin just found out that her gender is not shown on her BC. Since she is doing this now (at time of I-129F) she has time to get this corrected (it can take 2-3 months where she lives). Imagine if she found out there was a problem with her BC a month before interview. :o
