Hi guys, I was approved for my visa on Tuesday and told to come pick it up today (thursday) but when I got into the building they said that some system error caused them to not be able to properly read my fingerprints and for that reason they were not able to print my visa. In my mind I was like, "okay so re-fingerprint me" which they did and I think the prints came out fine but they still keep saying that their system is down so they can't give me the visa.

My contact at the Embassy who has been handling my case took my cell number and said that she would call me once they are able to print it but she's not sure it will be today. So of course I'm sticking by the phone but my mind is going crazy with doubts and fears. I'm thinking, suppose this causes them to look into my case again and decide to change their minds on the approval? I'm just a basket case at this point.

To top it all off, I had my ticket booked for tomorrow morning first thing and now if they don't call me in the next few hours I will have to cancel. My fiance is having surgery TODAY and I was already disappointed that I couldn't be with her while she was having the surgery and now it looks like I'll have to miss yet another day of seeing her. This is so FRUSTRATING.

I must admit, the IO who approved me on Tuesday did tell me NOT to book my ticket until I had my visa in hand but I didn't listen. I was so excited and so ready to get to my fiance for her surgery that I figured. "I'm approved so what could go wrong?" and booked the ticket. Now I'm so worried I don't know what to do. I know God is in control and everything happens for a reason but I can't help but feel scared, nervous and depressed. Has anyone ever had an issue after approval that caused you not to be able to get the visa when you were supposed to?

It is advised time and time again not to book anything until the visa is in your hand.

That being said, issues can happen regarding finger scanning. You are approved, they are just having some problems.

You'll get the visa so just calm down.

I've seen many posts about problems scanning fingerprints. You're not alone it happens.

Don't think the worst.

First thing, breathe.

This is a delay, they already approved you, they won't revoke it.

You may need to have your flight pushed back a few days, there will likely be a fee. Best bet is to push it back a couple weeks, since the cost of the ticket goes up the closer you are to the date of the flight. If you have Frequent Flier miles, you may be able to have the ticket refunded for the cost in miles, and book your flight once the visa is in your hand.

Contact the embassy and inform them that you have a flight booked for tomorrow and your fiance has surgery today so you'd like to be there to help her recover.

after dealing with the bureacracy for so long you of all people should know not to book a ticket. I wish your fiance the best in surgery. You are almost there.

I can feel your sadness. So close yet so far. I would offer you a hug. I wanted my fiancé to meet my grandmother before she died but it did not happen and we are still waiting.

Call the airline to see what are your options. Then you can make the right decision. Maybe you can get a cheaper flight in the middle of the week as opposed to the weekend.

Yes call the airlines and do not take no for answer, ask for a supervisor, if that does not work ask for their boss, keep going up the food chain until you find someone who can and will help.

As long as you do not have anything and I mean anything in your back ground you did not tell them or something that will make them want to dig more, chances are they will not.

Unfortunately system glitches happen and when they do unfortunately they usually cause someone a lot of anguish, I had a connector that kept dropping off my itinerary, I first noticed it a month before going to Israel from the US, the airlines would fix it the next day or two days later it would fall of again and again. This happened about ten times. Fortunately when I arrived at the airport I was still on the flight. thing is I was stressed for a month before my flights and it all worked out.

Side note; people take note do not purchase tickets until you have visa in hand, you waited this long a few more days, should not matter that much.

Thanks everyone. I WAS able to cancel my ticket without issue since I canceled less than 24 hours after booking so that's good. And yes, to all of you who reprimanded me for buying my ticket before I had my visa in hand, you're right, I should have known better. Under normal circumstances I am an EXTREMELY cautious person (most of my friends/family would say, "too much so") and I would never have done something like that BUT when the love of your life is laying in a hospital bed and the IO says to come back on thursday morning to pick up your visa, I defy any of you to tell me that you wouldn't be booking that ticket immediately. In fact, I thought I was doing the cautious thing by buying the ticket for the next morning instead of the SAME DAY just in case there were any issues. Well, turns out there's a big issue and I'm still stuck here without my visa. THIS SUCKS! Has anyone experienced this system failure before? They said it happens from time to time and they cannot issue the visa until it's cleared up but it only seems to be affecting the K-1 applicants though- i.e. ME since my contact at the Embassy told me I'm the only K-1 applicant at this time. This is beyond frustrating and of course I was freaking out at first thinking that maybe it had something to do with me or that they found something and wanted to revoke my approval but I found this article online that proves this happened as recently as July of this year. I hope it clears up soon, I need to get to my love.

To answer directly, no i have not had that problem with our K1.

But if the USG personnel have certain policies and procedures they must follow. If there is a system glitch or a system down and the regulations say that they must run something throigh ot for varification. They will wait it is their job and career on the line and they are not going to jeopardize their careers for us.

And unfortunately with technology there are system glitches.

Just so you know we are probably at least two months away from fiancee getting issued her visa we are still waiting on NOA2 and we have look at flight schedules. Yes we have because it is 16 hours flight time and at least one layover for us we want to try and get flights with the shortest amount of travel time. So you are not the only one suffering from what should probably be known as flight fever. : )

I am happy to hear you got a refund. Ok now beathe and wait until visa is in hand.
