The liberal elite ... know that the people simply cannot be trusted; that they are incapable of just and fair self-government; that left to their own devices, their society will be racist, sexist, homophobic, and inequitable -- and the liberal elite know how to fix things. They are going to help us live the good and just life, even if they have to lie to us and force us to do it. And they detest those who stand in their way."

I think it was said here how some would slap a firearm on their person to go ride around in the "hood". If you need a gun to go somewhere, why would you go?

Have you bought your personal carry weapon yet? Or gonna wait til you retire first?

Most normal folks would.

Rlogan. Surely you are a better person than this in real life? At least I thought you were...

What is interesting to me about this article is that it is explaining in very specific terms the social problems arising from owning and using firearms. That's an uncomfortable fact that noone wants to address - hence we always go back to this 'if you ban guns, you should ban <<insert household object of choice>>

Perhaps YOU need a new argument.

How many guns do you own? Don't need a number here, a simple "none" or "some" will do.

I own some. And yet I have never been shot at nor have I myself shot at another person. There are no "social problems" in my household that are brought about by gun ownership.

Does owning guns increase the risk of being hurt by one? Sure. Just as going to a zoo increases your chance of zebra attacks. Or being a pilot increases your chance of dying in a plane crash. Simply being around something dangerous (as opposed to abstaining completely) increases your risk.

Put it this way.... how many people do you personally know who have been hurt by a gun? (Assuming you know a lot of folks who don't own guns) I know of no one, and I know a lot of folks who own guns. I DO know a guy who put a hole in his roof with an "unloaded" rifle one time though. The potential for more damage/danger is certainly there.

Today's lesson.

Guns good. Stairs and bicycles bad.

No. Today's lesson is that owning a gun statistically adds 1/6th the risk of taking a walk.

Not exactly a cause to rally around.

What are the anti-gun nuts so afraid of?

If they are so paranoid about owning a gun........don't buy one. How hard can it be?

I'm not worried about myself owning a gun.

Just going from articles posted here lately, we have seen that 1 in 5 American adults suffers from an episode of mental illness each year and roughly 1 in 2 American adults has access to a fiream. That results in a potentially large pool of people who are both armed and mentally ill. Those are the gun owners that concern me.

So in other words bury your head in the sand and ignore anything to the contrary. Brilliant.

Going to wait. Since it looks like RI is the last stop, I don't have the urge to carry. If I was going to live back home or move off base here in IL, that's a different story...

TBH, I used to +1 everything Rlogan posted. But lately, he's been all over the place.

So you only read my posts and not rlogan's, I see. I give what I get Dave. Act like a fool, I'll treat you like a fool. Wanna have a logical and respectful discussion, I'm all in.

I ignore the stuff that says owning a gun makes one more likely to be a killer, or to cause bad things to happen, because it simply isn't true for everyone.

You ignore the questions and counter with demeaning comments on a regular basis, because you can't seem to answer any other way. We are who we are. I haven't killed anyone, and neither have you. Seems we arrived at the same place in life, even though one of us owns guns and one refuses to answer.
