Is there a government subsidy involved in ethanol production

Yes.

It is just an overall waste of money that actually cause more pollution. Plus million of acres of native prairies have been turned into cornfields.

Now you think AG is going to let this cash cow slip away?

AG? Al Gore? Is that what you think this is all about? Al Gore? What does he even do these days?

You do know that it's pretty difficult to earn money farming?

Not with over 6 bucks a bushel corn.

You may need to check on what farmers make. I think in MN the median in 2012 was around 150,000 per year. I don't remember exactly....but it was up there.

I maintain that man made global warming nuts say that global warming causes the earth to get warmer and colder overall at the same time. If the temps decrease for the next 100 years........it's just man made global warming.Or if it gets warmer...same cause.

Never mind that the earths temp has never remained constant.

What do your experts say?

Buy carbon credits.

You can't go wrong

So I am taking that as:

I dont know if climate change is real, I dont know if humans cause it.

No.

I sense your guilt ,that you have been duped into, and I think carbon credits will help you ease some of the pain.

Give it a try. Let us know if it works.

Remember the earth is dying....so send as much as possible.

You have a lot of opinions about me and my angst, but no apparent opinions on whether

A: Global warming is occurring

B: That is caused by Man

I apologize if I did not make that clear.

A. Global warming may be happening. Where I live was at one time a glacier one mile thick.Since then it has warmed up. I expect the earth to either warm up or cool down. Just the way it has happened forever.

B. Certainly not caused by man.

Okay thanks for clarifying:

So if you are certain that this phoneme is not caused by man, putting you opposite the iopinion of 97 % of published climate scientist, then you probably need another reason to reduce carbon consumption:

1 Put money in your pocket by making your business or home more efficient Example: Replace your incandescent bulbs light bulbs a with LED bulbs, 900% return on your investment

2 Lower Taxes and return the surplus to taxpayers: Since instituting a revenue neutral carbon tax British Columbia has had the following results

  • BC’s fuel consumption has fallen by 17.4% per capita (and fallen by 18.8% relative to the rest of Canada).
  • These reductions have occurred across all the fuel types covered by the tax (not just vehicle fuel)
  • BC’s GDP kept pace with the rest of Canada’s over that time
  • The tax shift has enabled BC to have Canada’s lowest income tax rates (as of 2012).
  • The tax shift has benefited taxpayers; cuts to income and other taxes have exceeded carbon tax revenues by $500 million from 2008-12.

3 Improve public health:

http://news.stanford.edu/news/2008/january9/co-010908.html

"While it has long been known that carbon dioxide emissions contribute to climate change, the new study details how for each increase of 1 degree Celsius caused by carbon dioxide, the resulting air pollution would lead annually to about a thousand additional deaths and many more cases of respiratory illness and asthma in the United States, according to the paper by Mark Jacobson, a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Stanford. Worldwide, upward of 20,000 air-pollution-related deaths per year per degree Celsius may be due to this greenhouse gas"

Not an expert on agriculture then. Figures. All farming is government subsidized. That's all farming, not just corn. It barely exists as a business and the reason for that is not that hard to figure out.

Like nearly every other grain farmer in the nation, Greg Jochem sold his corn at a profit in 2011, when the yellow kernels were bringing $6 for a bushel that cost just over $4 to grow. The next year was just as good for farmers, with $7 prices, $5 costs and bigger yields meaning more cash.

So the Ainsworth, Nebraska, farmer hesitated last spring when he thought about selling most of his 2014 crop in advance for about $5.

“It looked cheap at the time we did it,” said Jochem (pronounced YOKE-um). “It looks dang good now.”

That’s because corn prices — a bellwether of farm fortunes — are headed toward $3.50 a bushel amid the promise of a bumper crop, here and abroad, with no sign of demand increasing. Corn prices are below the cost of production this year for the first time since 2005.

But agriculture is cyclical, and many experts believe the cycle is headed down. The Agriculture Department predicts that corn prices will average $3.65 next year, bottom out at $3.30 in 2016 and stay below $4 a bushel until 2023. Soybeans, the Midlands’ second-largest crop, will follow suit.

During that time, the cost of energy, fertilizer, seed, equipment, labor and the other basic supplies of farming likely will continue rising.
