Did I understand you correctly: you have called NVC, they told you your DS-261 was reviewed and you should receive IV invoice shortly? If so, then you are good to go. But if you are just waiting for IV bill without IV invoice, you'd better contact NVC with a request to review your DS-261.

Hey guys!

I'm in the process of collecting civil documents and just have stumbled on a technicality. The NVC doesn't require originals to be sent any longer, photocopies will do. And what about translations? Should I mail in a photocopy of a translation, and submit the translation to the Embassy?

Please, share your experience.

Vlad, it' s great news originals are not needed anymore!

I have another question however.

Do I have to submit ALL the documents from the highlighted list or just one of those is enough?

employment letter, pay stub, or pay advance (direct-deposit receipt) that meets the criteria below:

· Includes your name and the company’s name;

· Is on signed, business letterhead (you cannot sign the letter yourself); and

· Is issued within the last three months.

I am a little confused. I heard we have to submit the original beneficiary's birth and divorce certificates to NVC.

Now I read at their website:

• You must submit a photocopy of each birth certificate to the NVC.
• You must submit the original birth certificate(s) (or a certified copy) and a photocopy of each birth certificate to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at the time of the interview.

Did I get it right that I don't need to send the original documents to NVC for the IV package?

I would submit both marriage certificate and divorce order - it is safer to submit more docs than required rather than receive a checklist and waste another 60 days waiting for review of your checklist.

It says "or" so you are required to submit either of these documents. However, it will not hurt to submit all of them. I, personally, submitted employment letter and pay stubs for the last 6 months.

Well, I am not hurrying with my Mom's IV process, but my marriage certificate is with my husband in the third country. So, I'd rather not send it to the NVC.

You know, this conversation turns in something like this:

- do I have to it an orange?

- you do not have to but you should because it is healthy for you

- well, if I do not have to eat the orange, then should I eat it? and on & on.

You are correct, you do not have to send a copy of a marriage certificate to the NVC if you file a petition for your parents based on the information provided on the NVC website : "Exception: If you are the Petitioner for your parent (IR-5, Parent of a U.S. Citizen), you do not have to submit your marriage certificate." (http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html).

However, I would recommend to do so for the following reasons:

1) it is better to oversupply NVC with documents rather than under-supply (that can cause a checklist and unnecessary processing delays)

2) you might have changed your last name due to marriage, so it would be good to show NVC why you have/had different name from your maiden name (even though you likely provided that document to USCIS)

3) prior unfortunate experiences of other applicants who shared their stories on the pages of this forum: there was a story of a guy who is not even married, yet he received a check list from the NVC requesting a copy of a marriage certificate. Guess, what can happen to a married/divorced person?

To conclude, you do not have to but it will not hurt. It is your choice.

Hi guys some great info in this thread; we are going to send of our packet tomorrow.. please god.

As far as I can see we have 2 options.

Put AOS and related docs in one envelope with documents checklist and the aos coversheet receipt. The put the IV and related docs with the document checklist and again the aos coversheet in a SEPERATE envelope. And the put the two envelopes in one packet.

or

Just use the Aos coversheet then the document checklist and then documents from both IV and AOS.

Which way should we do it? both ways will work, or ones is better?
