Hi guys,

I was wondering if I am required to do the medical examination before I attend the visa interview in Australia. I was wanting to get some vaccinations done at the local GP as this may save me some money but I wouldn't have all this done by the interview as the doctor requires a visit over 3 weeks. My interview is in 2 weeks time. I have read some conflicting information, some stating to go to the interview with examinations already done and another stating that the certificate is required to show USCIS when entering and adjusting status. I know that by having the examination after the interview would delay the issuance of the visa as they would need all required documents to do so, but is it possible so that I can have the vaccinations done by my GP. What would you guys suggest being in my situation and has anybody attended the k1 visa interview without doing the medical examination first?

All feedback will be greatly appreciated, have a great day.

Sammie, I've heard of people doing this, it's not usually a problem for Sydney. Your visa won't be approved on the day but they will approve it once they get the required documents.

However how do you know which vaccinations you need? A lot of the vaccinations on the list are waived. Also why do the vaccinations take 3 weeks? Are you getting both rounds of vaccinations? You only need the one round for the visa. If you want to save time, and not get unnecessary shots, I would just get them at the medical.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I just assumed the vaccinations that were needed were the ones listed on the website. I will be getting only one round of the vaccinations. I had some blood tests done last week and the doctor was able to tell me which ones I have already got, he scheduled the remaining vaccines on a Saturday for the next 3 weeks, maybe he didn't want to do them all at once?

It's also a good idea to just have them done at the medical, does anyone know know how much I am looking at per vaccination? I know prices vary but just an estimation will do. I also have another question, where do you do the photos to have them to the US consulates specifics?

Thanks again,

Sammie

Most of the required vaccinations you would have already got as a child, but the blood tests your doctor took will show immunity either from vaccinations or having the disease.

For most people, the only ones that are actually required (from memory) are tdap, MMR, varicella, and influenza if flu season. The rest are waived. Someone correct me if I got those wrong, there might be one more.

At the medical exam they will be using form DS-3025. Check that list. Most people in Australia only need 1 or 2 shots, if any, because they have already had the shot (or disease) or it is waived.

My fiance had his medical in Melbourne, at the Port. He had to get 2 extra shots whilst there, even though he had seen his GP to get up to date prior to the medical. They made him get the flu shot and one other, which we cannot remember. (sorry)

The flue shot is required in a certain time frame of the year (seasonal) so you may not be required to have that one. But anyway, he paid all together $530.00.
