How big is the issue.... Name wrong on passport

My fiance' is ready to apply for her passport, but noticed that her fathers name was spelled wrong. Now she says it will takes several months to get an appointment to straighten it out. My question is, is it that big of deal? Can she apply for passport under present name and change it later or, not change it at all. The only thing is on the G-325 she wrote her fathers name correctly. If we do nothing is it likely to blow up in our face? BTW She is from Manila.

Her name is correct on Birth Cert, but fathers name is mispelled. Of course we spell his name correctly on G325, but when she got her Birth Cert, she noticed that it was Pablo instead of Pedro.

Sorry, I explained it wrong in original. It is her birth certifacate that has her fathers name mis-spelled - sorry for confusion.

It is VERY common to have misspelled names on NSO birth certificates. It is a much better idea just to use the misspelled name on all forms that you fill out.

It takes a long time and from what I hear a court judgment to get the name changed to the correct spelling

As long as everything is correct with your fiancee's name I would leave the BC as is, use her dad's name as spelled on the BC.

Sorry there is no science here, I know of some that ignored the different name spelling on the BC and did the process with the name of their father as they always knew it growing up. I try not to "lawyer things up" as that can get to be very messy.

The decision is yours.

Even though it will not match with the name we put on her G325?

Her fathers name does not have to match her name as long as you use the same spellings on the filing forms that are indicated on the NSO forms.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. As luck would have it, my fiance's sister has a friend who is a lawyer and says, not to change name on BC, but he will make up a legal affidavit to testify to the fact that it is a typo. He said problems should be solved for this situation, since they really are more concerned with whether or not she was born in PI, than a typo on a document. Thanks again to everyone.
