Hey guys,

Not sure if this has already been addressed but I was wondering if the sponsee's finaces and assets are considered when applying for the K-1 visa? It does say on the US Visa website that "You may present evidence that you are able to financially support yourself or that your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) is able to provide support", which makes me beleive that it is possible. My partner in the US is a bartender, makes good money but not all tips are taxed so I am a bit concerned. I have about 30,000 in savings and property.

Thanks for your help!

Most consulates do not accept the assets of the foreign fiance(e) for self-sponsorship. There are a few that will though. I am moving your topic to the Canada regional forum in order to get answers specific to your consulate.

I got to deal with this when I got to the consulate. I don`t remember what form we had my father inlaw fill out. Bascially if something were to happen, and my hubby cant take care of things, in l aw is obligated to. Basically all the info we provided was the form, his proof of citizenship, and tax return.

Hey,

Yah I am. But I was wondering if I could use my income and assets in the interview for self sponsorship. I guess my concern is that because my fiancee is a bartender that we may need more income just to be on the safe side.

What embassy did you go to?

Montreal. I think he needs to make more then 24000 (has to state on the income tax return) My husband only made 18000 which is under poverty lines. I`ll ask him when he gets home from work what the site was that showed how much you needed to make.

I`m not too sure about self sponsering. If there are forms for it, fill them out, have them ready to? rather safe then sorry

I just spoke to him, when your fiance does the affidavit of support, there are two versions. a short and long one... the short one your fiance does, and the long one is for the person sponsering you (I think it`s nine pages long) - also, they will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate and this years or the next or last years tax return, depending on your interview.
