I personally would go to an InfoPass...6 months seems outside of the regular processing time, although you might want to see if other people at your field office are experiencing the same delay...we in Dallas all waited until recently for our interviews so I knew it wasn't abnormal and Amna-H's husband just had his interview date scheduled. Some offices are SLOOOOOOOW as molasses. Not wait, molasses is way faster! I had my interview and was approved but I am waiting on my oath date and God knows how long that'll be...I say go to an InfoPass :)

Congrats, btw, @Amna-H...I have my fingers crossed for you that it goes smoothly so you can be reunited with your hubby soon!

Not a peep since Nov. 28th, should I check in with them or just wait?

As of March 28 your application is past the 120 processing time.

You should make an appointment and go follow up, but at this point, you would be entitled to contact your representatives for assistance.

Thank you tocca2015, i really hope so too that he gets done with this smoothly! We have waited alot but finally things are moving again. And yesss it all depends on the field office. Ours is Santa Ana even when my husband doesnt live in that county. And its pretty slow as compared to other offices in california. By the way, the Santa Ana office is still processing N400 cases upto 15th may 2014… thats means that info is outdated. I really got hope when i saw you getting scheduled for interview..and my prediction was somewhat right :) fingers crossed for the interview.

Any suggestions for going through civic questions quickly?

The civic question part is really quick! You get asked 6 questions that are randomly generated by the computer and if you get all 6 right in a row, you have passed and are done with the civic questions part. If you miss one, they continue up to 10 questions and you just need to get a grade of 6/10 to pass. It was easy. I do recommend getting the US Citizenship questions app for smart phones, it really helped! Or you can listen to the CD that they give you at the biometrics appointment :)

Das what they did with me...I did the civic and test ..but he told me he didn't receive my background check yet

This happens more often than you'd think. They usually schedule interviews before the file is received. If they didn't, it would add about a month to everyone's processing time. Sometimes they realize that the file won't arrive in time and they reschedule the appointment by mail. Sometimes they wait too long and the applicant receives the letter after he/she has gone in for his/her interview and has been told that there's no file. And of course, sometimes they mess up and don't send a letter. What's certain is that if they don't have your file, they can't interview you. In some cases (very rare) they administer the civics and language tests and then reschedule the application review portion of the interview.

I have just received the Interview Letter today (15th Apr). The interview date will be 20th May.

Kash2011 or Jimmy Hou, could you please help to update the list. Thanks.

I think I am the last one of the Taxas lockbox list to get the interview !!! It takes nearly 7 months from the date of N400 filing to the date of interview !

This last stage is the longest one of the whole journey.......

Moon Light

Hi there Moon Light,

I have been following your timeline, since we both have the same office - the slowest of all - OKC. Hahahaha

I am a January 2015 filer and have been in line since March 20th. According to your timeline, you got the interview letter 3 and half months after you got in line...

Do you mind sharing your experience after your interview on May 20th? Thank you much, i appreciate it.

Are you filing under the 5 year rule or 3 year rule?

Thank you very much and good luck on your interview!

I have a question for my fellow October filers who have already gone through their oath...

When your online status is at "you have been placed in line for your oath, a letter containing the date and location for the oath will be mailed etc.", once USCIS does schedule the day and time for your oath, does your online status change to say something else? To something like "you have been scheduled for the oath and a letter was sent"

Or does it simply stay " you have been placed in line for the oath" and then you just have to wait and get the letter in the regular mail and that's how you find out?

Thanks in advance!

Hi SaltUponWounds,

I passed the interview and have got the e-mail notification, as well as online status update this afternoon about the in-line for oath schedule.

It took me almost 7 months from filing date till interview date and I still have to wait approximate 8 weeks (as the interview officer told me at the end of the interview) for the oath ceremony, totally may be up to 9 months !

Since I needed to drive 2 hours to the office and do not know how the traffic situation, I came 1 hour earlier than the appoinment time. The Security only allow me to check in exactly 30' prior to the interview time. There were only 2 people waiting ahead of me. After 45' waiting, a male officer called my name and led me into his office, he asked me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. He then invited me to take the seat, checked my ID, Green card and passport, and started right away the reading and writing test. He gave me a paper pre-printed 3 sentences and asked me to read the 1st one (How many senators are there in the Congress ?). He then spoke " There are one hundred senators" and asked me to write down the sentence on another paper. After that he asked civic questions which were pre-printed (I saw total 10). They were:

1/ What is the name of the National Anthem ?

2/ What is the ocean on the West coast ?

3/ How old must citizens to be to vote for president ?

4/ Who is the Chief Justice ?

5/ Latest to send tax form ?

6/ What do we call the 1st ten amendments ?

Since I answered all 6 correctly. He stopped. I saw him wrote down my answer for each question and tick answer correctly box on the right hand side of each question.

He then went through every page of N400 from 1st page, asked what was my job? what was the company's name ? ..... and then answered the yes/no questions. He then let me sign some papers and gave me the form N-652 and told me that within 30 days I will receive a mail informing the date, time and place of the oath, approximately 8 weeks. (But in the e-mail notification I received today said that I can expect to be scheduled for the oath within 45 days from the approval date).

Since I filed under 3 year rule, he spent some more time to look over proofs: Tax Returns, Lease Agreements, car title, car insurance, health insurance, life insurance and 401K beneficiary, bank statements, electricity bills, Cox bills..... He took all of those copies from me and attached to the file. The total time of the interview was 45'.

So, for who is filing under 3 year rule, be well prepared with copies of proofs.

Best regards,

Moon Light

First of all let me congratulate you on the passed interview Moon Light!

Wow, 9 months is a long time, compared to what other offices (with more applications mind you) are taking. I am getting very impatient with the whole procedure. So, he did ask you about your job situation? Interesting... I am in-between jobs right now, so they wouldn't have the latest job info on my application. Did they ask you anything about citations/traffic tickets?

Thank you very much for the detailed info Moon Light!

Good luck at the Oath and hopefully you get the date fast! Let us know how it goes and where it was scheduled, how many people etc...

Thanks again friend!

Moon Light
