So I had my interview on 04/17, passed civic/English, was asked the Yes/No questions, and given a paper that said "decision cannot yet be made", the IO did indicate that everything looked good, she said she needed to look through the file again. (Or as I figure, she probably needed a supervisor to sign off on it.)

It was still a little nerve racking, but this morning I received the notification that I'm in line for oath scheduling. Yay!

Hi EM_Vandaveer,

I laughed when I read your interview review because I was coming on VJ to add the exact same story LOL!!! (we are both at the Dallas Field Office). The lady I saw was very nice, we went through the civic questions then the application line by line and she gave me a "Decision cannot yet be made" form. She immediately added that she was going to approve my file later on that day, but she needed to look it over. From comments she made, I could tell she never read my file before the interview...So I wasn't too worried & 2 days later, I received the "In Line for Interview" email notification.

I think Dallas is so backed up that it's possible the interviewers don't even have time to review your file before meeting us. I read another story identical to ours in the July thread in Dallas as well.

One step closer!

tocca2015,

I wish it only took 2 days, it was 2 weeks for me so I started to worry (needlessly, as my case is pretty straightforward, haven't left the US since my first entry, AOS and ROC was pain-free, no criminal record etc).

I wonder how long it will take to schedule us for the oath ceremony, I spent almost 4 months "in-line for interview", I hope that won't happen again...

That's hard to tell but I think it'll be soon. I did some digging and looked at another VJ member's timeline who went through the same thing we did in Dallas (an August 2014 filer) and they had their interview 3/24 and got their oath letter in the mail around 4/18 with a 4/30 oath date...so I think we should be getting our oath letters in the mail 2nd or 3rd week of May...I will keep you posted and update when my letter comes in!

Hang in there and don't worry, you are always there :):):)

On March 26th I have got my interview letter, and May first went for Interview! huge disappointment by Denver office! I was completely ready, they called me in very soon and told me that they don't have my file yet! they apologized for the inconvenience but I was totally unprofessional to not let me know before the interview! no email, no call, no letter!

I asked the officer about the issue, he said they don't know, but most likely the background check is not complete yet!

I asked how common is this, he said, today you are the third one with this issue and its common,

I asked why they scheduled an appointment without having the background check complete, he said they hope that by the time of interview it will be complete!

I though it's good to share this experience for people who are googling this kind of issues!

yeap, they said they will schedule a new date for the interview!

This happens more often than you'd think. They usually schedule interviews before the file is received. If they didn't, it would add about a month to everyone's processing time. Sometimes they realize that the file won't arrive in time and they reschedule the appointment by mail. Sometimes they wait too long and the applicant receives the letter after he/she has gone in for his/her interview and has been told that there's no file. And of course, sometimes they mess up and don't send a letter. What's certain is that if they don't have your file, they can't interview you. In some cases (very rare) they administer the civics and language tests and then reschedule the application review portion of the interview.

I heard about the "file not here yet" problem, but I was under the (mistaken) impression, that they would conduct the interview, but not approve the application until they receive and review the file.
