I simply don't understand the mindset. How someone could think they need to live like this outside of a war zone is beyond me.

I get wanting to defend one's self and family. I get how someone would want a gun or maybe two in their home for that purpose, but I really don't get this whole guerrilla warfare training as if we were living in the bush of Vietnam.

Red Dawn had just come out on video, it got people to thinkin 'bout it.

A video came out yesterday from Brazil (I won't link to it - extremely graphic) of a machete attack where the man had both of his hands chopped off and I would say about a third of his skull was missing (two off center chops trying to take off the ears). He was alive but the doctors just had him and his body parts on a stainless steal table and were sitting there basically staring at him - they didn't know where to begin. The reason for the attack? He was trying to steal a goat.

I believe that if you are of the mindset to carry a firearm for the use of self defense that a person should be properly trained. Trained in the safe use of handling a firearm and trained in the proper use should a defenseve situation develop. This video is just a small part of such training. There are reasons for every drill that is being shown. Muscle memory is a key part of this training. . The instructor that I work under has military training and still trains members of the military in urban fighting, While I do not encounter the same drills he teaches in urban fighting . This is not nessessary for my situation. The skills that he teaches in home protection should and will be to my advantage if a home break in occurs . .

Exactly. Trained and educated gun owners go a long way to cut down on careless gun accidents.

Educated and trained in proper firearm use is a good thing. Living your daily life as if you were fighting the Viet Cong and being armed to the teeth, not so much.

So you feel that a self defence course is over the top as shown in this video. please explain ...

People take self defense courses, women take rape prevention courses, so if one is going to carry a gun for self defense, it's best that they be trained to do so. I don't know about living as if I was in a war zone, but certainly being observant and aware of your surroundings is a good thing. Simple safety rules and common sense are good to follow whether they involve a gun or not.

True story. Many years ago in an Atlantic City Casino, I saw an older man walking away from the cash out window counting his money. He had a couple of grand in hundreds, and was walking slowly through the casino counting it. Like a flash, somebody ran by grabbing the money from his hand and continued running, probably blending into the crowd. Common sense and being aware of what you were doing and where you were would have prevented this. No gun needed.

What is 'the real society'?

Does it involve the need to own many guns and carry them about with you everywhere you go in case there's a violent attacker or a terroriser?

I think most people would call that unhealthy paranoia.
