Thank you cdneh for the response! I am already giving myself the corn husker treatment even though I have not yet received the 2nd FP notice. It's maddening that there is no way to get the info as to whether your prints were machine readable or not apart from getting the 2nd FP notice.

Just to clarify though within 7 days of your first FP , you had already received the 2nd FP notice for Jan 5th 2012? That was quite considerate of the USCIS service centre :) .

It is maddening, there ought to be some way they could let people know the biometrics were captured, and you could relax. Yes, it was 7 days, but it wasn't a huge center, and they were quick with the turnaround at least.

I had to leave the State to get fingerprints done, the closest to me was in Memphis TN. It's a 3 hour drive up there and back, and I was a little annoyed to have to make the trip twice, and in foul weather. The person I dealt with the second time didn't know what a second fail would mean, and was a bit startled to hear the remedy was Police clearances from wherever the person had lived since arrival.

I got distracted after that, my husband ended up in hospital in TN for 5 months, and I spent all that time standing over him in the ICU, and staying at the hospital family residence. Immigration, and fingerprints, were not high on my list of things to worry over. Our ROC took 11 months by the time the card turned up.

All the best, try not to go nuts while you wait, you know what to do know if they need you back, and it sounds as though you are prepared.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Hi Cdneh,

I hope your husband is doing well now ! I can imagine that fingerprints would really be the least of your concerns at that time...

I guess everyone goes through their personal nightmares and it doubly hard to go through a complete black box process during hard times....

Thank you for your replies...!

No letter as of today ...keeping fingers crossed...I will keep the forum posted if something happens...

Guys,

It has been 18 calendar days since my first fingerprint and I have not yet received the 2nd notice.

Does this mean the first one was accepted?

Has anyone received a 2nd FP notice due to their first one being machine unreadable later than 2-3 weeks from the first?

45 days after my first fingerprint appointment I get a letter saying my prints were unreadable and I have to appear for 2nd FP.

Thanks NSC. I am on an overseas trip. Now I need to make a 2000 USD trip to give a second set of prints which will fail. Couldn't feel more encouraged.

Did you get your AP already without fingerprints being accepted?? I was under the impression AP/EAD is dependent on a succesful biometrics.

I got both my EAD and AP and my fingerprints were machine unreadable. So no , fingerprints not required for EAD or AP. Have confirmed this with my lawyer too.

Okay yea now that I think about it both makes sense. I had a bar code on my biometrics letter for I-765. However, on my current EAD (on OPT) I did not have to do the biometrics--it just says on the card that my fingerprints are unavailable. So I guess it works either way.
