Obama Orders Boots on the Ground!

In fact, that is the real topic of this thread, if you are to look at the copies cited in the initial post. At times when our country is under distress we still find the resources to help where most won't dare go.

That is something nobody can take away from us.

There was nothing to be missed. Obama ordered boots on the ground in West Africa as part of the response to the Ebola outbreak. That's the only place either article in the OP claims where Obama has ordered boots on the ground. As far as the ISIS issue is concerned, no troops have been committed, let alone ordered, on the ground. The second article in the OP is pretty clear on that. Nothing missed at all. Simply injecting a dose of reality into a thread that continues to mix two separate issues leading many to arrive at incorrect conclusions.

Whenever his mouth moves, progs sip on a fruity drink. History? They don't need no stinking history!

Words captured from 0bama's mouth. But, what difference does it make?

We're at war. We're putting boots on the ground. We're not waiting around for the host nation's government to get its affairs in order, or for a regional coalition to commit first. The president has apparently overcome his reluctance to use the military, his worries about a commitment to intervene without an exit strategy, and his usual reluctance to acknowledge (even implicitly) that his administration was wrong when it assured us that there was nothing much for us to worry about.
Aren't there other parts of the U.S government suited to carry on this fight? If not, shouldn't there be? Max Boot suggested building such a non-military civilian ability in the pages of this magazine over a decade ago. Surely an administration committed to smart power would have developed the civilian capabilities to fight a virus without deploying 3,000 troops?

Of course, the enemy the president has boldly and unhesitatingly sent our troops to fight is the Ebola virus.

That virus the Weekly Standard is referring to is Ebola not ISIS. It's making its rounds in West Africa not the Middle East. The military personnel going to West Africa - those "boots on the ground" as the Weekly Standard labels them - are engineers and medical staff, not combat troops. Thus, nothing in the Weekly Standard blurb contradicts anything that you quote above. It's not that hard to grasp, really.

I don't know what to say JR, I guess not everyone loves our country with the same passion and patriotism that we do...

Oh sure, I love my country more than you do.

Ted Bundy worked a crisis line and saved at least one person's life, from suicide. It doesn't change that he's Ted Bundy. Same with us. It would be great if all the USA did was fight disease. The USA kills a lot more people than Ebola ever will. By some gigantic order of magnitude. Millions of refugees. Trillions of dollars squandered. That could be spent fighting disease. Educating. Infrastructure repair, etc.

Interesting to hear people whining about Iraq and ISIS when the OP is so glaringly drawing it to our attention by thinking you can do that and then not have people answer. Sure, even setting it up this way hoping to brow-beat people for "misunderstanding" the OP. No - I understand perfectly. Which is why it is all the more important to talk about ISIS in the context of your framing here.

The white knight USA. Going it alone, fighting disease on behalf of other people. Don't you look at the bombs we're dropping on wedding parties and the hundred-fold more people dying of dysentery, malnutrition, etc. that comes with our bombs. My God, it couldn't be clearer that this is exactly it's purpose. Not so much our care for other people, but to spawn exactly what we see in this thread. Attention diversion and agenda control.

For the less aware, patriotism is a partisan value. They can only love the country when they are happy with the administration. They advocate winning by losing; being losers themselves.

I'm glad to see our men and women in uniform engaged in a humanitarian mission that requires as much love and courage - if not more so - as any other campaign.

I believe that with the exception of the fifth columnists, we can safely say the entire country is behind our military on this one.

Well done America.

blah blah - partisan preening.

It is odd to us who belong to no party watch both of you point the finger at each other, screeching about being partisan. And this childish "you don't love your country" goading.

You don't seem to get how hypocritical it is, but then again this is just a stupid message board...

Good points, but I guess you are not invited to many cocktail parties

Personal attacks are the best you can do?

Matter of fact I was elected overwhelmingly against a longtime incumbent locally. Quite the powerful political family too. I did it nonpartisan. I was not registered with either party.

So thanks for the opportunity to respond to that personal attack. But I served for three years watching exactly this sort of partisan stupidity, how they framed things for public consumption in our secret executive sessions you were not allowed to talk about. I voted against executive sessions every time. But both parties love it because then you can frame the debate publicly in a different way than what you are doing in reality.

It's disheartening. How corrupt and even scary it is at the local level. For what you are up against. The money. People that are not afraid to burn your house down over money. So I got out. You either play ball and put your hand in the trough too, or get out of their way.

Please don't take my statement about love of country or patriotism of others literally. It was sarcasm to make a point about those who do like to hide behind flags/G*d/country and suggest that those who disagree with them are wrong headed. I start with the assumption that everyone in this forum loves their country.

#######. How can a person that is not affiliated with a party be partisan? It is false by definition.

The largest single "party" is no party at all. Independents. It is over 40%:, and much higher than either one of you. But every damned issue has to be made all about your team vs. the other team.

WASHINGTON
— Fed up with the Democrats and Republicans who run Washington, growing numbers of people are calling themselves independents.

Both republicans and democrats alike try to control the agenda for their party, and you don't dictate to the rest of us. I am pretty sick of everything being framed as what the republicans say about it vs. what the democrats say about it. And opening posts like this that are specifically for the purpose of partisan bickering.
