No issue to pay the travel tax at the airport. Just have to find the counter... they are remodeling ... and it has moved. I would ask a guard by the luggage scanner when you first walk it, hopefully they can point you in the right direction.

Hank, that was for T1. This would be for T3 since it's Delta.

If you arrive early enough, there is no issue checking in before paying the travel tax. The airline staff should also be able to tell you if you need to pay the tax or not.

Hi Guys! We had our K1 interview yesterday and got approved. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, we can purchase a one way ticket? We're not required to have sa round trip by the immigration here in Manila?

Thanks!

No issue buying a one way ticket, after all this is a tourist visa... ;)

Remember do make any travel arrangements until the visa is in hand.

I verified with Delta that the don't collect the Philippine exit tax on tickets originating from other countries, they only collect it for travel originating in the Philippines... Hopefully they will believe the receipt I have for my fiancé showing the Philippine tax collected, and I will pay for just my exit tax.

If the tax was already collected, then you don't need to pay it a second time. Only need to pay the terminal fee.

They are right. They don't collect it as MOST people who originate from other countries are exempt from paying the tax. You will still be asked to pay upon leaving Philippines if they deem you dont' qualify for the exemption.

The fare breakdown printout of your fiance's ticket should suffice as proof of tax payment. As for your ticket, you should not be paying the travel tax as you should be exempted because you are a foreign national (unless you are staying in the Philippines for more than 1 year).

As just a note: I have been looking at ticket prices on Delta and a one way from Minneapolis to Manila is $1900 next March, however if i get a round trip from Manila the price goes down a few hundred dollars. What a ripoff!!!

So question how soon after we get married with the K-1 visa can she travel out of the country?

They are not going to offer any good prices until you get nearer to the flight. I booked a trip from Dallas to Manila roundtrip this month leaving 10/18. Price was $753, If not a holiday or summer I can usually get a roundtrip from DFW to MNL for $1100 all day long....

Ok the point is there is three different ticket prices

  • one for a round trip form the US to Phils about $1500
  • one for a round trip from the Phils to the US about $1700
  • one for a one way ticket from the Phils about $1900

RIP OFF

No they are just seeing if anyone is going to bite and pay that much in advanced.

Usually a one way ticket is same or more than a roundtrip in general.

March you should be able to get a roundtrip for around $1,000 from Minneapolis

Just book about 40 days out...

Once you are married, file AOS (Adjustment of Status), along with filing the I-485, file the I-765 and I-131, the last two are free to file when included with the I-485. The I-131 is an advance parole card - this is what you could use to travel outside the country (actually for entering the USA on your return ;) ) before receiving your green card. BUT I don't recommend using the I-131 to travel back to the Phils if you plan to be gone for long, there is the potential of getting an RFE on the I-485, and secondly you could be required to attend an interview at the USCIS nearest your home. The green cards have been taking 4-6 months on average from when you file, if you don't get an RFE, they can potentially take a year.

$1070 The forms are fairly straight forward, I-485 follow the instructions sheet on the USCIS, and I-864 along with required income evidence are required. I-765 & I-131 are optional, and free, as I mentioned before.

The AOS guide is pretty good here.
