Hello everyone, I am a U.S citizen by birth living in Egypt and filling for both my husband and my child. ..the NVC requires tax returns for the last 3 years..I haven't lived in U.S. .and I worked in egypt ..what form should I file?

and should I write my foreign income or what equals it by dollar? And what should I send with the form as a proof of my income?

I'm very confused and I don't know what to do or even how to fill out those forms although it is not taxable.

thank you in advance.

To start with you need to file tax returns for past years with your income in Egypt - as this is what you were supposed to do. You may not necessarily have to pay taxes if your income was taxed, but as US citizen you have to file tax returns on your worldwide income.

Thank you for your reply but what form should I file? And how can I prove my income..do I have to send anything with the tax return?

Same form as your would normally file (1040) and if you have income you can exclude, there are additional forms (2555 for foreign income tax exclusion - if you are eligible).

Plenty of info on IRS site -

Bottom line is - as a US citizen, you are required to file tax return with IRS regardless where you live and where you make money. That's the law.

kzielu is correct, as a US citizen, regardless of where you live whether it be USA or EGYPT, you still have to file your taxes

just file 1040 as you would if you were living and working in the US.
