We went out to my mom/dad's for supper last night...just before we left Dad said he just found out he has prostate cancer...he's 71. He doesn't want to get it removed, so he is probably going to do 7 weeks of radiation, every day M-F. (from what I read though, radiation isn't too bad..not really paintful or anything like that...it's chemo that's the bad one!...mom had breast cancer in past and had to have chemo) after I freaked out a bit (inside) I calmed down after he said it was early stage and the doctor said it was a very treatable type of cancer. Anything with that word in it is scary though!! Anyway...dunno why I posted this....saw the word in the title and been thinking of it I suppose. M.

Michelle, a good friend of my Dad was diagnosed at age 72 with prostate cancer, too. He got some radiation, certainly not much, and his doctors told him that at that age, the cancer (as all other cells in the human body) grows so slow and is usually not very agressive any more, thus some radiation is enough to fight it. It depends on the type of cancer, of course, but basically, the doctor told him "you'll die with this cancer, but not from it". Anyway he's turning 80 this May and seems to be doing just fine.

Wishing your Dad the best!
