Hi people, haven't started this whole process yet, but trying to figure things out.... when i am approved the k-1 visa and i go over to the states to be with my girlfriend is it possible for us to get married in another country? or will they not allow me back into the US without some sort of other visa after we're married?

Thanks in advance for any help, it's appreciated.

K-1 is a "fiance(e) visa.... It is a single entry visa. You need to arrive to the states unmarried (a fiancee) and you must marry within 90 days. If you depart the states prior to getting married, you will not be allowed to return on that visa (since it allows only one entry) or if you try to enter at anytime as a spouse.

The k1 visa is designed to marry in the U.S., you may want to research the k3 visa if you want to get married in another country. Good Luck!

Trying to get around something with immigration is like asking for trouble. It's best to keep it simple. But good luck to you with whatever you decide!!!

Thanks for our quick replies, i did think that was the case... is there anyway of getting around that? or will it the only be a k-3 that will work?

No way around it with the K1. If you do K3 you'll have to spend thime apart after you are marrried to wait out the process, which, incidentally, often takes a bit longer than the K1.

Check with the US consulate regarding DCF. The process varies from country to country.

In DCF, the US citizen needs to have lived in the beneficiary's country for a length of time (varies from country to country) before they can try DCF.

I didn't get a sense from the OP that was the case for them.
