Does anyone know if the birth certificate in extensa is automatically legalizado? Or do you have to Ask for that specifically? I know the embassy requires the birth certificate in eXtensa and legalized as well.

Hi,

You have to go to the oficilia civil where your birth record is or I believe you can get them in the main Junta central by the feria. Tell them you need it inextensa and legalizada. If you get in the oficialia, to get it legalizada you have to take it to the cancilleria, if you get it in the junta central they should be able to legalize it for you. I don't remember if we had ours apostillada as well, but I'm not sure it's required by the embassy. When you request the certificates just tell them its for the us embassy and they will know. It's best to get them from the junta central because that way you only have to make one trip.

Get it in-extensa AND legalizada, it would be like 200 pesos more or so, and it will be like a stamp on the back of the acta. I had to go to my hometown because my birth certificate was not in the Santo Domingo office, some sort of copy they tend to have. Anyway, I got it and then I got it legalizada at the same oficialia the same day in my hometown...this was early this past june.

Good luck.

So they don't require them to be apostillada for the interview, right? I just want to make sure because I know they have to be apostillada for use in the states, but I wasn't sure about the requirement for the visa process. I cannot remember for the life of me if the ones I submitted for us, as well as the ones for my two cousins were apostillada or just legalizada lol.

We got our extensiva in (Miches-small office) and it was not legalizada. We had to take it to La Romana to get legalizada. The same with the children's birthd certificates. We got them in Higuey and they were not legalizada. Then we had to make the trip to La Romana to get them legalizada. This almost caused some delays for us.

Why they didn't do the legalizacion of the actas? I mean, I had to ask the office in my hometown to add the legalizacion, because "I didnt' see it on the acta", they told me that I had to request the legalizacion and pay an additional 200 pesos (I think it was..), otherwise it was going to be just a birth certificate with no legalizacion. :/

Just wondering if Miches or Higuey have a reason to not legalized it....maybe employees with lack of instructions ? cos it sucks.
