Dear VJ members,

I had applied for a B1/B2 visa back in April 2011 to attend a training in U.S and although visa officer didn't refuse me the visa, she mentioned application will be put under administrative clearance. I had earlier traveled to U.S on a J1 visa and then it took around 3 months so I kind of knew that it will be done again. However, I kept waiting and only received a call from U.S embassy in Singapore next year i.e. 2012 that no status is available on your application for an year and thus you need to apply again if still plan to travel. My training was over and I had left that company the same year so I didn't apply again.

Now I'm married to a U.S citizen and at the stage of filing DS-260 application. It is asking if I was ever refused a U.S visa to which I'm not sure if its a refusal or just no status. I checked on CEAC website today for my B1/B2 visa status and it says "No Status". I then called Department of State visa centre and was told that my visa was "retracted" and the question should be answered as "Refusal". I want to double check as the CEAC online status is not showing "Refused" at least.

What does the CEAS online status show if the visa has been refused? Does it state it clearly or just show "No Status"?

Have any of you been through this? Please advise how can I get further clarity on the status and thus answer the application question correctly.

Moreover, would this likely affect my immigrant visa processing in any way?

Hope fellows here can help with their advice.

Best.

Zia

It should not affect you.

If you were ever refused a visa it would certainly not affect unless it was for reasons known to make you ineligible to obtain an immigrant visa, which is what you are now going for.

In my opinion you need to say YES (you called and they gave you the same answer), and then explain what happened.. Just say that it stayed in "No Status" forever and then they contacted you to re apply if you still planned to travel.

Tell the truth and you will be fine. I recently applied for B1 due to my employer requiring me to travel. I explained that I am in the i130 processing, because you need to disclose such things. If I get refused, I will explain just as I am telling you. That does not affect your process at all. Lying or concealing information, does.

Best,
