I-485: New married names or maiden names

I am filling out the i-485 for my wife. Do I use her new name or old name?

use her married name.

You will use whatever name she is going to use legally after your marriage. If she is taking your name, use that name. If she is keeping her maiden name, then use that name.

We used Claudeth's married name and after receiving offical notice (EAD) we changed her name on her social security card to the married name. I guess you could stick with the maiden name, I think either way will work. USCIS might ask you in the AOS interview why she didn't take your name!

What about the USC (me) using her new married name (the last name of the intending immigrant, a.k.a. my hubby) on the I-485 and I-864. Will it complicate matters to use my new last name on these forms?

Why would that complicate things? It's your name, use it.

Using the maiden name if they intend to legally use the married name isn't a good idea since it is a BIG pain (waiting for new card to arrive, etc, and we all know USCIS loses stuff a LOT) and extra money to get the greencard changed into the married name if it arrives in the maiden name. You should use whatever name you want on the greencard/EAD and the name you want to go by in the future.
