How do I get my family after the interview in New Delhi, India?

I am about to pick an interview date for my wife and daughter on the UStraveldocs site. I know we will go for bio metrics and then the interview. Their passports will then be delivered after the interview. How long does it take to deliver the passports? Can I book their tickets in anticipation that if the visa is granted then it wll take 10 days. ?

Does any one know how long it will take? I want to save some money by booking tickets in advance. I do realize there is a chance that things can go wrong and I will have to reschedule the ticket.

Any advise is appreciate.d

Thanks,

Harry

Visas are normally valid 6 months; you are better off waiting until visas are in hand before booking.

Anything can happen... a missed or non-readable signature, a missing document, they are picky about something and want more evidence, security checks after the interview, you need to re-schedule the interview due to illness, the visa printing machine runs out of ink and it takes a month to get more (happened in Ireland once....)

If you are going by a major airline you can pay a little more (like 5,000 RPS so not LITTLE I guess) to open end the tickets and re-book them. I'm not sure if that will outweigh the pro's and con's of losing 80,000+ if you have to cancel your tickets all together.

And although I have only dealt with the US consulate in New Dehli once (and a long time ago at that) you never know what could cause a delay in getting those Visa's in hand. Just my advice though!
