another one that doesn't work - a lady (her sex is irrelevant of course so I should say 'a driver' ) was driving up a hill in the country and ran into the back of the car ahead - her excuse was 'he was driving too close in front'

this is not hearsay - she said that - she said it to me - I was the cop (1969)

similar to the classic ---- 'can't you see I have flooded the kitchen - don't just stand there - help me YOU IDIOT !!!!'

A lot of people use attack as the best form of defence but a profuse apology works best. I once stopped a car with 4 priests in it and they were so drunk they fell out into the road when I opened the door...

they were lovely fellers though and very apologetic so i rang the head monk or whatever to take em back to the church - i showed it as them running out of petrol - well i prefer that to them doing the other things priests get into trouble with nowadays....

I left shortly after that to pursue a career of being controversial whenever possible
